I am prediciting Joyland instead of Close.
    My lineup now:

    Decision to Leave
All Quiet on the Western Front
    The Quiet Girl
    Argentina 1985
    Joyland

    This is my prediction too.

That Corsage scandal didn’t seem to affect its BAFTA chances.

I just love movies. And awards.

Just watched Saint Omer, not for me. I found it a complete bore. I didn’t need 75% of two hours listening to some one on the stand.

I have to say , I have seen about half the shortlist and this year there’s not a movie that really stands out; previous years even with an obvious  winner , other nominees were equally deserving.

This category has too many worthy potential nominees. I have the feeling my predictions will be way off:

All Quiet On The Western Front
    Argentina, 1985
    Close
    Decision To Leave
    Holy Spider

The reason i’m not predicting EO or Saint Omer is because one of them is too experimental and another is way too slow. These type of movies only do well with critics.

Very very happy for EO! Is Poland the most nominated country in the last 10 years? It’s their 4th nomination since 2014 and 5th since 2012.

    Denmark scored nominations in 2013, 2015, 2016, 2020 and 2021.

Thrilled for “EO” as well. I started to doubt it after televised awards excluded the film although trifecta of critics awards was an impressive achievement already and good indication that it can be nominated anyway.

    First ever nomination for Ireland!

Can’t win all of them but an Asian film being snubbed two in a row (after “A Hero” last year) really hurts.

But is this the first time that the first submitted film makes it as a nominee? I remember The Quiet Girl being the first submitted film for this Oscar season.

I just love movies. And awards.

Saint Omer was nominated for four Cesar Awards, but not Best Picture or Best Director, surprisingly. https://deadline.com/2023/01/cesar-nominations-2023-france-full-list-1235240223/

I have seen four of the five nominees and they are all absolutely wonderful films! All Quiet is the best of the four but I love Close the most since it resonated with me and has haunted me ever since I saw it. The performances in Close were amazing, particularly Emilie Dequenne (who looks like Jessie Buckley to me, just an aside).

EO and The Quiet Girl are both quiet and intelligent. I still haven’t seen Argentina, 1985 unfortunately ): Wish it was available.
