Two more submissions, both in this article: Saudi Arabia has submitted Raven Song, and Mongolia has submitted Harvest Moon. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/oscars-saudi-arabia-raven-song-international-feature-1235251180/November 4, 2022 at 9:13 pm #1205142070
Three more submissions have been announced:
Australia has submitted You Won’t Be Alone, Azerbaijan has submitted Creators, and China has submitted Nice View. https://www.thewrap.com/oscars-international-race-2022-2/November 8, 2022 at 5:42 pm #1205145997
The European Film Awards nominations have been announced, and submissions like Alcarras, Close, Corsage, and Holy Spider are among the major contenders. https://nextbestpicture.com/the-2022-european-film-award-efa-nominations/December 9, 2022 at 11:29 am #1205185457
The Academy has released the full list of contenders, and most of them match up with what was already reported. It looks like Malta’s submission wasn’t accepted, so I’ve removed it from the list. Also, Sweden still has the same film, but the title has changed from Boy From Heaven to Cairo Conspiracy. https://www.oscars.org/sites/oscars/files/95aa_sl_international_feature_film.pdfDecember 14, 2022 at 10:37 am #1205194714
India not submitting “RRR” is proving to be the gravest of dumb blunders. Yikes.December 14, 2022 at 2:20 pm #1205195127
RRR would’ve made this much more exciting. I actually like that there’s not a lot of buzzy films (some of the expected ones are kinda quiet) because it’ll be like 2020 when Tunisia and Hong Kong’s movies got in with little fanfare.
I just love movies. And awards.December 17, 2022 at 6:03 pm #1205199323

It's about the chaotic editing in Moulin Rouge!December 18, 2022 at 8:16 pm #1205200445
Argentina won the World Cup.
Maybe, just maybe, this helps the movie’s chance at a nom/win?

Decision to Leave will be winning this at Oscars, right? What’s the alternative?December 19, 2022 at 1:44 am #1205200572
I watched 20 of this year’s submissions. I don’t think I’ll be able to catch any more before the short list drops so here is my assessment based on what I’ve seen:
In order of preference:
01. South Korea
06. The Philippines
REALLY, REALLY LIKED
LIKED WITH RESERVATIONS
In order of chances to make the shortlist:
03. South Korea
COULD SNEAK IN
15. The Philippines
20. KosovoDecember 20, 2022 at 1:59 pm #1205203170
Is there any reason why Holy Spider is eligible to represent Denmark?
Isn’t that film supposed to be Iranian?
"Dearest Anita,..."failing to nominated for HK Film Awards is unjustDecember 20, 2022 at 4:34 pm #1205203302

If I’m not mistaken, Ali Abbasi (Director) has Danish citizenship. It was also co-produced by Nordisk Film, a Danish production company.December 21, 2022 at 3:41 pm #1205205236
Argentina – Argentina, 1985
Austria – Corsage
Belgium – Close
Cambodia – Return to Seoul
Denmark – Holy Spider
France – Saint Omer
Germany – All Quiet on the Western Front
India – Last Film Show
Ireland – The Quiet Girl
Mexico – Bardo
Morocco – The Blue Caftan
Pakistan – Joyland
Poland – EO
South Korea – Decision to Leave
Sweden – Cairo Conspiracy
1. I’ve only seen three of these. Rooting for all of them (Argentina, Germany, South Korea). If there’s a possible snub out of the frontrunners, I won’t be surprised if it is Argentina 1985.
2. Last Film Show got in!!! I don’t know if I should pick it just for the passion for RRR or just ignore.
3. My NGNG is Joyland.
4. Tried to watch Bardo but I couldn’t make it past the first few minutes with the childbirth scene. I’ll probably pick it up again later if it gets serious hype again.
5. My prediction:
All Quiet on the Western Front
Decision to Leave

I made check marks against the shortlisted films and I ticked off Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Mexico, and South Korea (and even Cambodia and Pakistan are possibilities) as definitely no doubt about it going to get nominated – that’s 8-10 films! And they often nominate one film that most of us have never heard of and will never be able to see where we live so… There are going to major “snubs” in this category! Not now
