ReplyCopy URLDecember 9, 2022 at 11:29 am #1205185457The Academy has released the full list of contenders, and most of them match up with what was already reported. It looks like Malta’s submission wasn’t accepted, so I’ve removed it from the list. Also, Sweden still has the same film, but the title has changed from Boy From Heaven to Cairo Conspiracy. https://www.oscars.org/sites/oscars/files/95aa_sl_international_feature_film.pdf

ReplyCopy URLDecember 14, 2022 at 2:20 pm #1205195127RRR would’ve made this much more exciting. I actually like that there’s not a lot of buzzy films (some of the expected ones are kinda quiet) because it’ll be like 2020 when Tunisia and Hong Kong’s movies got in with little fanfare.

Maybe, just maybe, this helps the movie’s chance at a nom/win?

If I’m not mistaken, Ali Abbasi (Director) has Danish citizenship. It was also co-produced by Nordisk Film, a Danish production company.

With the Indian Committee, it’s not surprise. They are usually idiots and pompous wannabes.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 21, 2022 at 3:41 pm #1205205236SHORTLISTED:
Argentina – Argentina, 1985
Austria – Corsage
Belgium – Close
Cambodia – Return to Seoul
Denmark – Holy Spider
France – Saint Omer
Germany – All Quiet on the Western Front
India – Last Film Show
Ireland – The Quiet Girl
Mexico – Bardo
Morocco – The Blue Caftan
Pakistan – Joyland
Poland – EO
South Korea – Decision to Leave
Sweden – Cairo ConspiracyTHOUGHTS
1. I’ve only seen three of these. Rooting for all of them (Argentina, Germany, South Korea). If there’s a possible snub out of the frontrunners, I won’t be surprised if it is Argentina 1985.
2. Last Film Show got in!!! I don’t know if I should pick it just for the passion for RRR or just ignore.
3. My NGNG is Joyland.
4. Tried to watch Bardo but I couldn’t make it past the first few minutes with the childbirth scene. I’ll probably pick it up again later if it gets serious hype again.
5. My prediction:All Quiet on the Western Front
Argentina 1985
Close
Decision to Leave
JoylandReplyCopy URLI just love movies. And awards.
December 21, 2022 at 3:48 pm #1205205248I made check marks against the shortlisted films and I ticked off Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Mexico, and South Korea (and even Cambodia and Pakistan are possibilities) as definitely no doubt about it going to get nominated – that’s 8-10 films! And they often nominate one film that most of us have never heard of and will never be able to see where we live so… There are going to major “snubs” in this category!
