When is Kelly Jenrette getting her invitation? 😭😭😭
ReplyCopy URLJune 29, 2022 at 11:55 am #1204999524Interesting list, they included a lot of contenders who didn’t make the cut last year. A few nice surprises.
Actually it’s really thoughtful of them to do so.

Yes there were few nice surprises that I didn’t expect to make the cut here like Renate and Joanna. Kodi, Troy, Jessie and Ariana were nominees. So I think they were guaranteed an invitation.
ReplyCopy URLJune 29, 2022 at 7:59 pm #1205000091Also something curious, did Beyoncé reject their invitation? I don’t see her on the list and she received a nod.
ReplyCopy URLJune 30, 2022 at 12:19 am #1205000183Interesting in categories outside of acting that someone like Lizzy Gardiner (1995 winner) and Antonella Cannarozzi (2011 nominee) only just got an invitation.
Great to see icons from down under, Rolf de Here and Rena Owen get invited. Rena Owen needs her Jacki Weaver style Oscar vehicle.

ReplyCopy URLJune 30, 2022 at 6:59 am #1205000277I don’t really understand that “one branch” thing. Lines between directing and acting and screenwriting and producing, etc have always overlapped, but with it continuing to increase so much, I feel like it makes sense to have people be part of multiple branches that they’re qualified for. Sure, they’ll have more representation on the board and they’ll be able to nominate in more categories, but doesn’t that kinda make sense considering they do a lot of different things?

June 30, 2022 at 9:41 am #1205000419They changed a major rule a few years ago that is much better across the board.
A person can still only be a member of one branch. If a person gets nominated in another category than their own branch, that person can start nominating in that category as well.
As an example, George Clooney is probably a member of the acting branch. He can also nominate for directors and writers because of previous nominations (along with everybody nominating for Best Picture).
Beyonce would be better off in the actors branch. She can nominate in those four categories PLUS now nominate for score and song since she had the music nomination this year.

The Television Academy needs to adopt this too. I remember that Tina Fey had to switch from the Writing branch to the acting branch of the TV Academy in 2016 in order to vote for Sarah Paulson.

I was actually clueless about this rule, but i like it. It’s nice to know they have that in place.

Do people who are already AMPAS members in one branch ever subsequently get offered membership in a different branch without (like George Clooney) receiving an Oscar nomination in that second branch? For example, Maggie Gyllenhaal joined the acting branch in 2004 and Rebecca Hall joined the acting branch in 2013. Could they have been offered membership in the directing branch this year, and if so, would that have been publicly announced anywhere? Also, is there a master list of all members published anywhere? (I don’t see one on the Oscars.org website.)
ReplyCopy URLJuly 1, 2022 at 11:38 am #1205001562Yes, they can be offered an invitation to another branch. Beyonce is already an acting branch member, but got invited by the music branch this week. A person already a member would have to leave their current branch to move over to another one. Nobody can be a member of multiple branches.
