Precursors were all over the place and The Return of the King overshadowed everything and everyone but what were the acting snubs of 2003 that did not make it to the Academy Awards?

I kinda like everybody that made it in 2003 with the possible exception of Bill Murray, but whatever… it’s all good.

Now if it were up to me, Elijah Wood, John Noble and Sean Astin would all get nominated for Return of the King… and Sean Astin would win Best Supporting Actor. Probably put in Uma Thurman for Kill Bill and Jennifer Connelly for House of Sand and Fog. And put Peter Dinklage, Bobby Cannavale and Patricia Clarkson for The Station Agent.

In conclusion, I wish Sean Astin won something.

I just love movies. And awards.

You are right but the academy sucks for not nominating him for that iconic performance and instead nominating the miscast Dicaprio for the aviator instead

Those 3 along Charlize Theron and Naomi Watts would have make a killer line up for Best Actress (I was especially pissed of about the Thurman and Connelly snubs)

Best Actress had like 10 viable options that year.

As a New Zealander, my country went crazy when Keisha Castle Hughes got nominated for Whale Rider. I actually thought it was a boring film and could never really understand the nomination. Connelly was great in House of Sand and Fog.

Nicole Kidman was expected to get in for Cold Mountain but didn’t though Jude Law and Renee Zellweger did.

Always thought Nicole Kidman snub was especially weird with her being the previous winner. Connelly was also a winner from a year before and yet Shohreh Aghdashloo got in…

Sean Astin or Viggo should at least been nominated. But I dunno if New Line campaigned any actors of Return of the King for award consideration. Any experts care to say something?
