March 26, 2020 at 3:31 pm #1203395867Kate Winslet doesn’t know how to choose a movie that isn’t an Oscar Bait, besides Divergent but she had 5 oscar fail attempts in a row and needed a paycheck for her wallet.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 26, 2020 at 6:29 pm #1203396129I think someone already pointed it out, but Winslet in this late phase is clearly trying to copy Cate Blanchett’s career.
With Wonder Wheel she tried to do her own Blue Jasmine and failed, and with this upcoming one (if it ever comes out) called Ammonite she’s trying to do her own Carol (and I think it won’t be nowhere near as good as the former), but it probably will be another dud.

March 26, 2020 at 7:45 pm #1203396218I agree about Kidman #2. I almost feel bad for her, how thirsty she’s been for the past few years with zero returns. I mean, she was trying SO hard with Destroyer, Boy Erased, and Bombshell and got zip zilch for all of them (despite probably being in the five runners-up for Destroyer and Bombshell at least).
Steve Carell absolutely as well. Vice, The Big Short, Beautiful Boy, Last Flag Flying, Battle of the Sexes, Welcome to Marwen, and Foxcatcher all REEK of Oscars thirst. But no one seems to have told him that he’s kind of an awful dramatic actor, so.
I almost hate to say it because of how much I love her, but Rosamund Pike seems to maybe be inching in this direction as well. Wouldn’t really put her here just yet, A United Kingdom, A Private War, and Radioactive all seem to point to an unfortunate trend starting to grow.
I know this is exactly the opposite of the question, but I also really respect how un-thirsty Emily Blunt has always been. I’m sure she’d love to be Oscar-nominated, but she never chooses super baity roles. A Quiet Place, The Girl on the Train, Mary Poppins Returns, and Into the Woods were all crazy different projects where she did so so amazing, and I think she got decent enough awards attention from all of those because she really just made every one her own.

We’re still waiting for that late-period Orson Welles biopic, Leo.
