I don’t think anyone chooses to play Megyn Kelly because they think they’ll win an Oscar lol. Also when was she ever pissed?
Indeed, Megyn Kelly does not look like the type of role someone would try to win an Oscar for, but it is definitely the type of role bait enough for a third nomination after more than ten years without being nominated.
But I wouldn’t say that Charlize wants a second Oscar so much, looking at the films she made after North Coutry (her last nomination) she basically made blockbusters, medium budget action films and comedies …March 31, 2020 at 7:56 pm #1203404052
All three wanted Oscar nominations this cycle badly, and each one deserved them. Pure snobbery and reputation slights kept voters from fully embracing them, and in those instances, it was their loss considering the dull nominees that were chosen instead. That level of elitism should prevent Academy voters from keeping their membership. Each needs one more “serious” future Oscar-bait role, and maybe their prospects will improve then.March 31, 2020 at 10:12 pm #1203404127
I´m surprised no one is talking about Adam Driver, the guy campaigned like crazy last year.March 31, 2020 at 10:16 pm #1203404129
LOL, WTF? Viggo was in a muh race movie. They are baity af no matter who directs them. Joker is far from baity because CBM got serious attention just a year before also due to muh race (Black Panther), which Joker didn’t have. So very doubtful that Phoenix accepted the role in a movie, that AMPAS has genre bias against, with a plan to win because Ledger pulled off a miracle. In fact, Ledger win was a strike against Joker’s baitiness. Apples and ornages.
After Joaquin won the Oscar would you say the joker is an oscar bait role now?April 1, 2020 at 3:20 am #1203404284
No because bait means made for Oscars primarily/only. Like Alfred Noobs and Danish Girl or that disability character that Jake Gylenhaal was begging critics to give a nice ink. That crap is a poster for bait, not a superhero character. For every Ledger and Phoenix, there’s Nicholson and Leto who weren’t considered. Playing Joker is not going to be baity like playing a historical figure. same goes for Vito Corleaone. Not a bait. It happened that 2 actors won for the same role because they were iconic not because the role is tailor-made for AMPAS sensibilities.April 1, 2020 at 3:25 am #1203404286

he campaigned like crazy to get nominated and then stopped campaigning like eevryone else when it was obvious Phoenix was going to win. he didn’t camapign to win. Considering what an epic turd The Rise of Skywalker turned out to be, no wonder he wanted to have second Oscar nom to offset it. Smart strategy.April 1, 2020 at 11:21 pm #1203405906

I don´t know, many people even the experts in this forum, considered Adam Driver the frontrunner and i think Adam thought he could win.April 2, 2020 at 4:20 am #1203406055

that tells you all you need to know about “experts”. There’s no way Driver thought he could win once Phoenix sweep started. heck, he may have seen writing on the wall when major critics went for Banderas and even Sandler. That’s why I said that everyone stopped campaigning once they locked AMPAS noms for winner was already known.
