Two who I think haven’t been mentioned yet are Michael Stuhlbarg and Jeremy Strong. Also, if we count actors winning in other categories, I would be shocked if Bo Burnham didn’t win for a screenplay or an original song in the near future.

October 26, 2021 at 1:05 am #1204539876It WAS a long time ago. For some perspective, Maggie Smith won her second Oscar three years before Glenn Close appeared in her first movie.
To add more perspective, she won against Meryl Streep who was on the first of her gazillion nominations.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 26, 2021 at 10:07 am #1204540642Ok, I get that almost no one got the “besides the obvious ones”.
It’s pretty clear that Emily Blunt, Michelle Williams, Saoirse Ronan or Jake Gyllenhaal are going to get an Oscar in the next few years. Like really pretty clear.
I was talking about those more Jennifer Aniston-ish: great or popular career but never close to an Oscar although have pretty good chances to get one in the future.
Thanks for trying though.

Looking at his 4584375 upcoming films, he couldn’t be further away from an Oscar

That he’s very difficult to work with on set and he pissed off many big producers in Hollywood.

Alongside the fact that other sides of her persona are also profitable for the industry, like her work as a model and face of Chanel.

October 27, 2021 at 7:32 am #1204542814Actors who appear in prestige movies on regular basis (Robbie, Ronan, Chalamet, etc) are more likely than actors who hit the awards jackpot once in a blue moon. That said, the latter category is hard to predict cause it could be virtually anyone as long as the industry has some respect for them and or their role/movie (read: JLo playing a stripper or Franco playing Tommy Wiseau ain’t it).
As for Tom Cruise, since he was the topic previously, he lost interest in pursuing non-commecial movies, so he would need his own Joker.

Exactly. Sarah is RIGHT on the edge of being/outskirts of being an Oscar nominee/winner. All she needs is a film.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 30, 2021 at 3:48 pm #1204548912Sarah Paulson seems like such an Oscar winner. I can just see her getting a standing ovation from Lupita and Cate and Sandra and Chiwetel and Michael. Shes worked with so many in the industry (shes worked with Rihanna like cmon) that this is the most inevitable one to me (I’m only including people who havent been nominated for Oscars and Emily Blunt).
Another I see is Stellan Skarsgard. Just won shit for Chernobyl, respected for character work, in over a dozen Oscar-nominated films, son is working now too. He would need the right movie of course, but I could see him be a slam dunk sweeper.
