I think Samuel L. Jackson would benefit greatly from an overdue narrative if he could get a good role to campaign from.

I’d also be interested to see how the Academy would take Dwayne Johnson if he were to land a baity role and perform great in it.

I could see him gaining some traction (& being good) in a mentor / teacher role. Something similar to Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting

I agree with SLJ, but I struggle to see Johnson getting far in the awards conversation. Granted, I think he’s a talented and entertaining actor, but I think he’s too associated with with generic blockbusters and voters will hold that against him.

    I don’t disagree.

Maybe in Tarantino’s “last” film? That could be a perfect storm for SLJ, and the Academy likes to reward his films in supporting actor.

Also, I watched “Jackie Brown” for the umpteenth time last night. He was electric from start to finish.

Dwayne Johnson’s first serious awards worthy role would go down like Sandler’s – good for you but your opus doesn’t scream Oscar (which is what secret AMPAS voters said about Adam). So it’s really that both would have to forfeit their comfort zone easy money and suck it up for couple of years a la McConaissance. It’s doable but wouldn’t happen on the first try unless it’s some uber baity undeniable role a la Lincoln and they knock it out of park.

SLJ would win on his second try cause he has industry cred and lots of influential friends to back up his considerable talent.

I’m rooting for all of them.

SLJ could easily win with the right performance. I feel like only Tarantino could give him that performance though, and he has just 1 film left.

Johnson’s best hope is an Oscar nom. I just don’t feel like he can win after starting in so many bad/mediocre movies. It’ll be like Eddie Murphy all over again if he does get nominated.

Do we think Judy Greer is in this camp? I feel like she’s the consummate supporting player who everyone just likes and knows is talented but just has never gotten the right role. She even sort of got in the conversation a few years ago for descendants (I think she got like a couple fo regional critics noms) but for some reason I’m not sure if I can see it. At least not until she’s maybe older and is more of a veteran

I’m opposite. I’d rather my favorites never win than win for some lame forgettable or downright awful try-hard gemme oscah role that’s pure make-up for snubs for worthy roles. No one lives down that crap.

Thank God Camp Close doesn’t have this mentality.

Give Rooney Mara an Audrey Hepburn biopic and she could very well sweep all the awards.

Also, Adam Sandler. Uncut Gems didn’t get him a nom but it got him noticed. If he follows it with another strong work instead of quick cash grab, he’ll be taken seriously and get in.

Oddly, I feel Sandler being in consideration in the same year as Eddie Murphy & Jennifer Lopez is what caused him to miss. The reaction from the “honest ballots” give the impression that one Razzie favourite was alright in one year, but all three together as too much to handle and no one got in.

It weirdly reminds of this scene from the Simpsons where Burns goes for a check up.

Hadn’t thought of it like this but it does make sense. Of the three I think Sandler is the most likely to end up with an eventual nom.
