Obviously J-Law. When she was very young, She played a role of an old woman: Angelina Jolie and Cameron Diaz were considered before her. However a more recent example: DiCaprio. In the original script of DLU, his character was older. I suppose that’s why his 2 sons in the movie look so old. His character was 55 years old in the original script

In “The Dig,” Carey Mulligan was 34 when she played 55 year old Edith Pretty; she replaced Nicole Kidman who, at age 52, had to drop out less than 3 weeks before filming was scheduled to commence.

Whilst the real life Edith Pretty was 55 during the events the film was set during, if I’m not mistaken the characterisation of Pretty in the novel The Dig is based on is of a woman in her 30s.

FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

John Preston took some liberties in the book, and I don’t remember Edith Pretty’s age being specified, but there was a reference to her having volunteered as a nurse during World War I, so I think she would have to have been at least in her mid 40s in the historical novel.

The most striking one for me has to be Jessie Royce Landis in North by Northwest. She portrayed Cary Grant’s character’s mother when in reality she was just 7 years older than him at the time of shooting!

The Jolie one was very weird because in the movie it was implied “he had a crush on his mother” and “his wife looked like his mother”

Angela Lansbury played Laurence Harvey’s mother in The Manchurian Candidate despite being only 3 years older than him. The characters’ ages are never specified as far as I remember but we can assume Lansbury’s role is meant to be older than her 37-38 years at the time of shooting.
