She’s an underrated talent.
ReplyCopy URLApril 4, 2020 at 10:55 pm #1203410447Would LOVE for Thandie Newton to be Oscar-nominated.
And damn, it just doesn’t feel right that Kirsten Dunst isn’t an Academy Award nominee yet. That just feels wrong. The Academy had better get on that as soon as possible.
She’ll have to wait till she’s 40 something for the Regina King / Patricia Arquette win fall.

Dunst feels like she’s gonna win first time she’s up a la Joan Crawford. Both were 25+ years in the industry with incredible bodies of work who hadn’t been recognised for a nomination but ultimately the wins for an undeniable piece of work on their first go.

I must admit, I am a sucker for exhaustive lists. I agree with just about everything here, though I’d add Tom Hiddleston, possibly Sean Bean and Eric Bana, and Georgie Henley if the GoT prequel does well. And if Taylor Swift decides to take up acting, her as well.

With how weak this year is going to be thanks to COVID-19 I think Emily Blunt has a strong shot at a Best Actress nomination for A Quiet Place 2.

Web Therapy was insanely underrated, her guest appearances on The Good Place and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Grace and Frankie should have all been Emmy-nominated, and The Comeback is genuinely one of the top five best performances I’ve ever seen (film or TV, drama or comedy), maybe number one. It’s obvious that film isn’t her priority, but once she gets her hands on a role with some real dramatic meat on it, she will DELIVER. And I think that if she gets the eyes on it, she’ll be an Allison Janney case where she’s so respected and beloved that they’ll give her the Oscar easy. Seriously, if you haven’t watched The Comeback (two seasons on HBO), I cannot recommend it more. Kudrow is one of the best actresses working today, and that series is the perfect showcase for her range and talent.
Based on your suggestion, I’ve checked out The Comeback, and I’ve decided to eat my words: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaPmxDV3EZg
She’s excellent in this! Does it seem like she’s going to be cast in an Oscar nom-worthy role any time soon, though? Idk…

Before it got moved, early reviews were saying its career best work from her so it wouldn’t be impossible for to get her first in a horror sequel.

She also had a fantastic recurring dramatic role on Scandal a few years back and is set up for banner year with Feel Good & Space Force

It’s not like she hasn’t been active in film, it’s just been a supporting player in studio comedies (Easy A, Bad Neighbours, Booksmart, Long Shot, Like a Boss etc).

One of the best filmed performances across any medium (film or tv, comedic or dramatic). Period
