You know what? Shah Rukh Khan. For a Hindi film. If it was the right kind of film, I could absolutely see him getting a nomination. He’s accumulated so much goodwill throughout his entire career and he IS a member of the Academy now.

I feel she could even win on her first nomination. Andre Braugher seems like a weird choice, but for some reason I feel he’ll be nominated this decade.
Well, the win didn’t come into fruition, but the first barrier has been broke down.
Now onto Braugher…

Yeah, I know Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki are not those kinds of movies. But there are still plenty of years left in the 2020s. If he did a movie like Swades again, I could see it happening.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 18, 2023 at 7:08 am #1205356240Emma Watson had the opposite trajectory of Kristen Stewart. The Twilight franchise gave Kristen a bad reputation and it took years of her doing critically acclaimed indies to shed that reputation. She had to do several movies back to back where she got rave reviews in order for lightening to strike with Spencer.
But Emma? When she was in HP she was widely considered to be a good actress with a very bright future. That is why she was able to work with Aronofsky and Coppola immediately afterwards. But the more time passed, the more roles she took on (i.e., Colonia, Beauty and the Beast, The Circle), and the more people thought less and less of her talent. Even when she was in Little Women, an awards darling that got rave reviews, she was still singled out as being the weakest link. People make fun of her acting now more than ever.
In 2019, Charlies Angels flopped but Kristen got great reviews for being the strong point in a weak movie. Also in 2019, Little Women was a huge success and Emma got bad reviews for being the weakest link in a great movie. You see the difference?
If Emma struggles to be good in a GOOD movie, then, I don’t know. She needs an acting coach or something. I honestly think she is too self-conscious to be a good actor. She cares too much about how people perceive her to let go and become someone else.

ReplyCopy URLMarch 18, 2023 at 3:49 pm #1205356566I know it’s a little off-topic to the thread, but I have a feeling Lakeith Stanfield is going to get another nomination at some point, and wouldn’t be surprised if he walked off with the statue.
In terms of the question already asked, though, I think Jennifer Lopez has the potential for a nomination at some point based purely off the buzz of Hustlers and the unanimous agreement of her snub. Likely not a win, but all she really needs to do is stay in some genre films for a bit, and do just one acclaimed role, and she can manage to get in. Wouldn’t surprise me if it were a biopic role of some sort, maybe even in the supporting category.
In terms of younger actors and actresses on the rise, Ty Simpkins has been getting roles in prestige pictures since he was a child. It’s likely something can pop up for him to make the cut in a supporting category at some point.
My dream is for a Keke Palmer nomination.
P.S.

Currently an ad is playing on the site as I type this of Jennifer Coolidge being interviewed for The White Lotus, and oh how wonderful a supporting actress nomination would be for one of her scene-stealing roles in something one of these days. Wish Nancy Meyers or somebody was around to make sure that would happen (think of a Joan Cusack in In & Out type nomination.)March 18, 2023 at 3:54 pm #1205356574Ben Affleck will get an Oscar nomination this decade

I know it might sound random but when it comes to Oscars you just never know…

If she one more scene in Promising Young Woman, she probably would’ve been nominated for that, or at least more in the conversation.
Think the issue with that was there ever managing to be a consensus supporting pick, Mulligan was obviously the lead and Bo Burnham the key supporting role to highlight (see his BAFTA shortlist mention) but Shannon also hand to compete Alison Brie and Connie Britton with their own “Oscar clips” as well.
