Glenn Close for The Wife. Regardless of her 2 Tonys, 3 Emmys in the 30 years since Dangerous Liaisons, her films career definitely took a hiatus and it wasn’t until 2018 that she got that deserving late career boost and her relevance is finally back to the public’ eyes. She even attended the MET Gala for the first time this year

At the time it was hailed by some as her best role in years.
(Before this she was in SheDevil, Defending Your Life, Death Becomes Her and The River Wild (and a small role in House of the spirits)).
For some reason critics weren’t into her comedies.
I think her Oscar nom for The Bridges of Madison County is her longest gap between Oscar nominations.

Love those films you’ve mentioned, including She Devil. Sag, Globe, Satellite, box office….River Wild is quite the physical role for Meryl.
Interesting. Hadn’t thought of Meryl that way.ReplyCopy URLThe Sunne in Splendour.

If she doesn’t get nominated this year, it will tie as her longest gap between nominations.

Reese went through a period of bad movies before Wild, and decided to take charge of her own career by launching her own production company and securing roles for herself. That started with Wild, and it paid off for her because she got nominated for many awards, including an Academy Award. She also enjoyed success as a producer by producing David Fincher’s Gone Girl (Rosamund Pike was nominated for an Oscar). Reese’s production company is called Hello Sunshine, and she built it into a media empire and has a devoted book club on Instagram called Reese’s Book Club. Every month, she reveals her new book pick and some of the books have been adapted for film or television (Reese starred in Hulu’s Little Fires Everywhere alongside Kerry Washington. Reese also produced an upcoming Netflix TV show called From Scratch starring Zoe Saldana, as well as the upcoming film Where the Crawdads Sing that stars Daisy Edgar-Jones. All three were based on Reese’s Book Club picks).
Agreed! Plus, Wild is one of her best roles to date.

I would prefer to say Brooklyn catapulted her status as a “serious” adult actress, not necessarily saved her career. I don’t think her career was dying at that time, but more like taking careful steps transitioning into adult roles. It can be difficult to find good, Oscar-worthy part when you are around 15-20 years old.
