I’d love to see Imelda Staunton in an Oscar worthy role–but I hope to see her win a Tony for “Gypsy” first.

I know Mary McDonnell has two noms, but they were long ago, and I’d love to see her in the spotlight again.

Here are some I consider overdue, if not for the win, but for more than one nomination:

Isabelle Huppert, Lesley Manville, Lena Olin, Angela Bassett, Don Cheadle, Sophie Okonedo, Carey Mulligan, Kristin Scott Thomas, Joan Plowright, Rachel Griffiths, Demian Bichir, Fernanda Montenegro, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Rosamund Pike, Charlotte Rampling, Chloë Sevigny, Ken Watanabe…

The following have won one Oscar from one nomination, but I’d like to see them back in the conversation soon: Juliette Binoche, Tilda Swinton, Alicia Vikander

Also thoroughly missing the incomparable quartet of double nominees without any attention since: Samantha Morton, Emily Watson, Miranda Richardson, Isabelle Adjani

Here are a few I feel are overdue for a win:
    Harrison Ford
    Samuel L. Jackson
    Isabelle Huppert
    Cicely Tyson
    Bill Murray
    Lily Tomlin
    Charlotte Rampling
    Michael Keaton
    Eddie Murphy
    Catherine Deneuve
    Kristin Scott Thomas
    Liam Neeson
    Hal Holbrook
    Angela Bassett
    Laurence Fisburne
    Frank Langella
    Ian Holm
    Harvey Keitel
    Mickey Rourke
    James Caan
    Bryan Cranston
    Jennifer Jason Leigh
    Patricia Clarkson
    Ken Watanabe
    George Segal
    Sam Waterston
    Robert Forster
    Alfre Woodard
    Sam Elliot
    Katharine Ross
    Terrence Stamp
    David Strathairn
    Barbara Hershey
    Lena Olin
    Tim Roth
    Imelda Staunton
    Gary Sinise
    Mare Winningham
    Edward James Olmos
    Michael O’Keefe
    Alan Alda
    Candice Bergen
    Oprah Winfrey

A few of the younger nominees worth mentioning. They may not be overdue for a win, but are definitely deserving of another nomination:
    Hugh Jackman
    Josh Brolin
    Diane Lane
    Stanley Tucci
    Greg Kinnear
    Uma Thurman
    Paul Giamatti
    Juliette Lewis
    Don Cheadle
    Sophie Okonedo
    Taraji P. Henson
    Carey Mulligan
    Jake Gyllenhaal
    Chiwetel Ejiofor
    Berenice Bejo

I’ll toss a bone to Alec Baldwin, since he has remained a force to reckon with on television and I wouldn’t mind a second bid.

These performers may not have a collection of performances capable of bringing them back to the Oscars, but it would be lovely to see any of them return to the attention of the prestigious award show:

1950s: Don Murray, Russ Tamblyn, Patty McCormack, Terry Moore

1960s: Anouk Aimée, Genevieve Bujold, Elliott Gould, Seymour Cassel

1970s: Diahann Carroll, Ronee Blakley, Jeannie Berlin, Brad Dourif, Giancarlo Giannini, Ryan O’Neal, Brenda Vaccaro, Marie Christine-Barrault, Chris Sarandon, Carol Kane, Burt Young

1980s: Kathleen Turner, Melanie Griffith, Albert Brooks, Sally Kirkland, Dan Aykroyd, Margaret Avery, Klaus Maria Brandauer, Elizabeth McGovern, Norma Aleandro, Amy Irving, Judd Hirsch, Anne Archer, Tom Berenger, Pauline Collins, Eric Roberts, Tess Harper, Dean Stockwell, Amy Madigan, Mary E. Mastrantonio, Lesley Ann Warren, Cathy Moriarty

1990s: Stockard Channing, Andy García, Peter Fonda, Rosemary Harris, Fernanda Montenegro, James Cromwell, Elisabeth Shue, Bruce Davison, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Rosie Perez, Sharon Stone, Rachel Griffiths, Minnie Driver, Chloe Sevigny, Chazz Palminteri, Rosie Perez, Stephen Rea, David Paymer, Michael Lerner, Kathleen Quinlan, Graham Greene

2000s: Salma Hayek, Clive Owen, Kate Hudson, Matt Dillon, Vera Farmiga, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Thomas Haden Church, Ellen Page, Anna Kendrick, Virginia Madsen, Shohreh Agdashloo, Jackie Earle Haley, Adriana Barraza, John C. Reilly, Amy Ryan, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Rinko Kikuchi

2010s: June Squibb, John Hawkes, Jesse Eisenberg, Demián Bichir, Hailee Steinfeld

And here’s to hoping these recent (within the last 5 years) nominees find their way back:
2014: Rosamund Pike, Benedict Cumberbatch, Felicity Jones, Steve Carell
    2015: Tom Hardy, Rachel McAdams
2016: Andrew Garfield, Naomie Harris, Lucas Hedges, Ruth Negga, Dev Patel
2017: Margot Robbie, Timothee Chalamet, Laurie Metcalf, Daniel Kaluuya, Lesley Manville
2018: Adam Driver, Richard E. Grant, Marina de Tavira

James Franco, Terrence Howard, Felicity Huffman, and William H. Macy probably would’ve been mentioned above, had they not fallen from grace in the public eye.

Ready for Carey Mulligan’s second Oscar nomination. She probably would have made it in for “Wildlife” in another year.

She was a million times better than Yalitza and Gaga. It’s a shame how the Academy has snubbed her over and over again.
