Though this girl obviously has the box office $$ and is sitting comfortably with her franchises and isn’t a lost hope. I’m a little shocked that Scarlett Johansson gave up on doing Oscar-baity roles since she is known for her looks and she was promising in Lost in Translation. She could’ve easily had a more prestigious career and maybe an Oscar nomination somewhere.

I forgot! But damn this girl could’ve done more with her film career in terms of prestige. Her music career didn’t deserve to flop either. But like I said, she is sitting comfortably with the $$ from marvel. So Scarlett is clearly winning.

Yeah Scarlett Johanson gave up on that. She definitely allowed herself to leave it at Marvel and random action pic like Lucy and Ghost. She is very commited to Marvel and those films and she’s a mom too. Maybe the time just isn’t there between Mom duties and Marvel obligations.

Maybe she just said: fuck it I’ll do those dramatic Oscar bait films when I’m older, the kid’s older and my time as Black Widow is over.

And she’s more successful and talented than her jealous ex-husband Ryan Reynolds will ever be.

I’d love to see Scarlett Johansson work with someone like Lars von Trier. They’re like a match made in heaven. She needs to get back with strong directors and finally get a nomination! Lost in Translation, Match Point, and Under the Skin were all award-worthy performances so we know she’s more than capable, just a matter of time.

I’d also add Abigail Breslin to this list (if someone hasn’t already). I know she’s on Scream Queens (is that still on?), but to me, her peak was Little Miss Sunshine. She could’ve had the opportunity to go so far as a child/adult actress, but just…didn’t.

Abigail Breslin deserves nothing if she pushed out that flop “you suck” song and was serious about it.

Oh god I remember that. All because that guy from the “pop-punk” band she went out with ended up not calling her…yikes.

Haven’t read through this entire thread but Emily Lloyd springs to mind. Plenty of potential wasted.

Another Emily (Watson) while having had a great career I believe could have had so much more if she hadn’t turned down lead roles in the likes of Elizabeth, Amelie, Gangs of New York etc…but at least she now has a decent career in TV.

    FYC:

Antonio Banderas and Asier Etxeandia, Dolor y Gloria (Best Actor/Supporting Actor)
Emily Beecham, Little Joe (Best Actress)
Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren, The Good Liar (Best Actor/Actress)

Bringing this thread back to life!

Neve Campbell came to my mind. After starring in the Scream movies (obviously) and her roles in Party of Five and The Craft in the 90s, she should have been positioned to be a big star. However it seems like it just didn’t work out for her 🙁 She has only starred in a bunch of indie films and cameoed in a few well known TV shows.

Her last big project was a role in season 4 of House of Cards I believe?

Ewan McGregor could have it all. He’s great in August: Osage County and in The Impossible.
