Lol, Nolan wishes he had even a tenth of Gray’s talent. And if he does, he’s certainly never put it out into the universe.

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahhahahahahhahahhahahahaha

Poor Nolan. I still think Memento is his best film to date.

Brilliantly executed, captivating movie with more layers than meet the eye at first, and a truly knockout turn from Pitt. He’d be a serious contender for Best Actor for this if he didn’t have OUATIH in the race.

Such a slow movie but I actually liked it overall. I thought the ending will be Jacob’s Ladder-ish in a way but nah…

Pitt was good. Score was almost quiet, and that’s the point. But overall, movie was too long for some reason. Idk what part I’d cut but damn…

Side note: the fact that this cheap looking killer countdown app trailer played before it made me laugh. I see Ford v Ferrari, then another prestige movie then that app movie. Hah

I just love movies. And awards.

    Still digesting the movie.
I was “warned” the film is slowly paced and very long, and yet i was surprised it was over.
Ad Astra has a decidedly strong religious undercurrent imo.
Kudos to Pitt, who carries the film without effort, the tech crew, and to Tommy Lee Jones for his terrific, short turn.

Really liked this movie. It’s slow but somehow works. Brad was great. N was impressed with Ruth Negga even though it was small part. Could just imagine what she would do with a great role and no I don’t consider her Oscar nom a great role. Didn’t like her in that

I expected a slow and introspective movie, but I got a tacky and corny movie. The film couldn’t walk the line between deeper ponderings on human connection and space baboons. Also, worst voiceover in decades.

    For Your Consideration:

Best Picture: Weathering With You, Parasite, The Lighthouse
Best Supporting Actor: Willem Dafoe - The Lighthouse
Best Animated Feature: Weathering With You, Promare
Best International Film: Weathering With You, Parasite

I can see why someone would like this but it just did not work for me. Honestly I think if they cut out the corny narration I’d give it a higher score. As for the piddly audience reception, I think that if they cut the trailers to show it for what it is, instead of a more misleading tone, then audiences would have different expectations (the same issue that It Comes At Night dealt with, though I actually loved that movie). Pitt was great as usual, as were the visuals. If you told me before I walked into it that Natasha Lyonne would have almost as many lines/as much screentime as Liv Tyler I would have never believed you.

The theater was almost empty and about half of them left after the space baboon scene. Actually that probably ended up being the most memorable part of the film for me.

Side note: the fact that this cheap looking killer countdown app trailer played before it made me laugh. I see Ford v Ferrari, then another prestige movie then that app movie. Hah

LMAO I got the same app trailer… It was the first time I thought we were genuinely running out of movie ideas.

I feel like we get the same ‘Space’ movie every awards season.

“Ad Astra” isn’t terrible, but the acclaim by some Film Twitter users would have you to believe this was a masterpiece…

Brad Pitt is good as always. But the movie never transcends its genre. The plot is basic. And some of the Supporting characters are underutilized.

    I give this a solid B.

I just saw the film last night and…I didnt really care for it. I thought it was beautifully shot. The cinematography, the sound design, the CGI…all superb and would be totally deserving of a nom. But outside of that, I was so bored. The film is only a little over 2 hours and yet felt like 3. The voiceover really bugged me. I’m more of a “show dont tell gal” and it felt like the filmmakers didnt trust the audience enough and had to literally spell out what was going on. The acting wasnt bad…but the characters were so devoid of personality that it made it hard for me to care about their fate. It had some interesting themes but I think it could have been executed a lot better.
