Just wondering, could she be shut out of the lead category and have to settle for Promising Actress, like what happened to Edgar Ramirez and Matthias Schoenaerts? The smart thing to do is obviously not submit to Promising Actress at all, and she will most likely win Best Actress in a cakewalk, but the question is, is that even an option? Do perfomers get to submit themselves to specific categories or do voters make the decision like the Oscars?
Never mind. Just found out the finalists for the Promising categories have already been announced and she’s in.
Such an astrociously unfair and stupid rule.
Funny thing is, as I was searching for the Cesar news, many French news outlets are declaring Adele a strong contender for both categories, citing Tahar Rahim as an example. They have no idea the rule has been changed since.
I also think it’s unfair that newcomers can’t get into the main acting categories straight away. But surely she’s got to be a lock for the Promising Actress award?
Anyway, I’m more interested to see what this means for Lea Seydoux. With Adele out the way they might bump her up to lead. However, she also had an actual lead role this year in Grand Central, so she might get in for that instead, and stay in supporting for La Vie d’Adele.
Seydoux should be placed in supporting. She is anot a lead. She is not on screen through large sections of the film, and the movie is quite clearly told by Adele’s point of view. Seydoux would have absolutely no business in Lead.
I wonder if this means Bejo repeats in Lead after Cannes. It might be seen as too soon, since she has already won before for The Artist, but unless there’s a major upset, she looks like the frontrunner.
I totally agree about Seydoux – she’s absolutely supporting. Just because I suggested the possibility of it happening, doesn’t mean I agree with it. It’s just that OTHER people – such as those who actually decide – might consider her lead and she might end up in the category for all we know. I’ve read quite a few critics who consider her lead, and I was merely speculating if the Cesar people might too (Again, I disagree with a lead placement.)
