I think so. I wasn’t crazy about Jojo Rabbit but I still would prefer her performance to Laura Dern’s average one. Gone are the days when if you were nominated in both categories you would win supporting (Fay Bainter and Jessica Lange are examples, but Sigourney Weaver and Julianne Moore both lost in both categories). I moved Johansson into Supporting Actress a few days ago and the BAFTA nomination solidifies it for me.

A win for JOJO RABBIT would be delicious: I’m not a Dern’s performance in MARRIAGE STORY hater, but Johansson is so luminous in JOJO and you miss her when she isn’t on screen

https://cinemaandpopcorn.blogspot.com/January 7, 2020 at 4:23 am #1203267932I think she will definitely be a double nominee, however I don’t see her winning either award. If anything the nominations themselves are her reward; she has finally broken through with awards voters and I am certain she will have a project in the future she could win with.
I think Zellweger and Dern have won simply too many precursor awards for them to lose at this point.January 7, 2020 at 4:26 am #1203267936She had double nominations before and then got snubbed at Oscars. I think that won’t happen again.
January 7, 2020 at 4:47 am #1203267952SAG needs to save her in one of the categories. Otherwise, the win isn’t happening for either. A double nomination might actually harm her for the win. Some might decide on giving her BA while others will do the opposite. Then she’s filler for both.

Pantheon of acting: Uta / Elizabeth / Richard / Sandy (Virginia Woolf), Bibi / Liv (Persona), Sandrine (La Ceremonie), Brie (Short Term 12), Jodie (Silence of the Lambs), Jodie (Killing Eve), Nicole (The Others), Eva (Penny Dreadful), Timothée (CMBYN), Lupita (Us)
January 7, 2020 at 6:32 am #1203268077At this point I think it’s happening. She has gotten in everywhere for Marriage Story and only missed at the Globes for Jojo. After being snubbed for so long, they will reward her with 2 nominations.
January 7, 2020 at 6:32 am #1203268079Marriage Story is a lock, so by Monday she will be an Oscar nominee.
Jojo Rabbit is curious… I haven’t seen the film so I can’t comment on her performance but she got in at BFCA, SAG, and BAFTA. That’s a lot of places to receive a double nomination, especially considering these places that are getting her to show up with a Marriage Story nom don’t owe her a supporting bid.
Johansson actually has the same amount of precursor support as Lopez, and is trailing Dern and Robbie. I think there is still a high chance her name gets left off but I would bet on a double nomination.
January 7, 2020 at 6:35 am #1203268087I’m currently predicting 2 nominations for Johansson.

And then Jamie Foxx won, but then Cate Blanchett lost.
The double nomination scenario still doesn’t have an obvious result. Scarlett, if nominated, could go either way.

Of the 10 people to earn dual individual film nominations at SAG, only three have won. I’m gonna see about stats for dual Oscar nominations. Obviously it didn’t help Julianne Moore.
January 7, 2020 at 6:49 am #1203268108Nope, I still think Lopez will take her BAFTA slot.
FYC:
Andrea Riseborough, Karim Saleh, Possessor/Luxor (Actress, Actor)
Rosamund Pike, Peter Dinklage, I Care a Lot (Actress, Supporting Actor)
Jim Broadbent, Helen Mirren, The Duke (Actor, Supporting Actress)
Sophia Loren, Abril Zamora, The Life Ahead (Actress, Supporting Actress)
Carey Mulligan, Promising Young Woman (Actress)January 7, 2020 at 6:50 am #1203268110This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.January 7, 2020 at 6:51 am #1203268113I think it is likely she will get in for both categories. I could see this meaning she splits the vote with herself, but I also wouldn’t be surprised to see her pick up a precursor at SAG or BAFTA for Jojo as a consolation prize.
January 7, 2020 at 6:53 am #1203268117Marriage Story noms is locked. For Jojo Rabbit in Supporting I think it’s between her and Zhao for the 5th slot, with Dern, Lopez, Pugh and Robbie taking 1 through 4.
