I love both performances they were amazing. But I think that Janney edges Metcalf out by a hair. However a lot of critics don’t agree with me. What do you think?December 30, 2017 at 11:04 am #1202451952
I’m surprised Metcalf has picked up more critics’ awards cause it’s pretty easy to compare the 2 performances since both play Moms, who aren’t the greatest. Janney’s character is pure evil, which gives Janney a lot more to play and makes for a way more memorable performance.
Janney will win the SAG and Oscar for sure.

Metclaf has more rounded character and has a lot more beats to play.

I think that Janney gave the better performance (both performances were great, though), but Metcalf has a ton of Oscar scenes. Also, while Metcalf’s character isn’t the best mother, she is a very likable character. The person Janney is portraying, on the other hand, is the devil.

I don’t know why people say Laurie’s character was a “bad” mother. That was a great parent.December 30, 2017 at 11:37 am #1202451972This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.December 30, 2017 at 11:50 am #1202451984This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.December 30, 2017 at 11:59 am #1202451992
I want Janney to win.December 30, 2017 at 12:05 pm #1202451997

I agree completely, she wasn’t a bad mother at all. I’ll never understand why some think that. She put her family first when her husband lost his job and was suffering from depression, working extremely hard just to keep a roof over their heads. That’s a big sacrifice not all mothers choose/would choose to make. Sure, she had some flaws, like the way she approached some situations, but she’s human.December 30, 2017 at 12:07 pm #1202451998
I love Allison Janney, and I feel like this is her only chance to win so I’d be really, really happy if she won. But Metcalf’s performance is better and if I was a voted I’d have voted for her.December 30, 2017 at 2:00 pm #1202452027
I just watched Lady Bird and this should be Metcalf’s in a landslide. Janney was fantastic and I’d be thrilled if she won but Metcalf gets more material and shines more because of it.December 30, 2017 at 2:01 pm #1202452028This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.December 30, 2017 at 2:15 pm #1202452036
I will probably watch Janney tonight, but I’ve seen Metcalf and I think she would be a very deserving winner. From what I’ve heard about Janney, she might end up being more popular with the industry than the critics, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she wins sag and then the Oscar. I love both of them so much though, I’ll be over the moon whichever one wins.

Metcalf should win this, her performance was more realistic and likeable. Meanwhile, Janney overacted as always, recycling her annoying performance in Mom. This should go to the BEST acting (Metcalf), not the MOST acting (Janney). Anyway, the female acting categories at the oscars are a complete mess every year, it’s like they don’t take them seriously.
Metcalf better snatch like Rylance. Theatre talent for the win!
