As you can see by my profile picture, I am a very dedicated Amy Adams stan. I am getting sick and tired of Adams going 0/5 at the Oscars and the Arrival snub didn’t help. It appears that the Janis Joplin biopic is officially dead so I am looking for suggestions for characters for her to play (historical figures, characters from books or plays, etc.) that could be turned into a movie and manifest in Oscar glory for Ms. Adams. Obviously this is all in good fun as her agents aren’t going to see this but Derbyites often have the best casting ideas so I wanted to ask at least.

Well as long as there are idiots who think an Oscar snub is better than an extra loss from a nomination, she needs to be a front runner next time when she gets a nomination. Time for her to play a mute/disabled/lesbian who’s also a rape victim or domestic abuse with tons of crying to get that Oscar

Too bad. Anyone who will do a convincing Janis Joplin is basically guaranteed an Oscar.

At the moment, she’s rumored to have been cast as Lynne Cheney in that Dick Cheney biopic Backseat Adam McKay is writing/directing. I hope it’s true and is a success so she’s nominated, but to me it doesn’t sound like anything super interesting or worth keeping an eye out for.

When they make another version of Tonya Harding’s story with a more A-list cast and crew that gets greater awards attention (a la Infamous and Capote, Jobs and Steve Jobs, Churchill and Darkest Hour), then maybe Amy Adams can play Tonya Harding since the physical resemblance is already there lol idk.

My mind draws blank for Adams suggestions. On paper she’s doing all the right things, but in practice most people are indifferent to her work when scrutinizing it against others. She’s respectable and acceptable as a default nominee when part of a prestige ensemble and requires them to do no having lifting when filling out a ballot for supporting actress where she reigns supreme with four nods. Two of them shared with a costar thought more of by the consensus.

Does anyone think the industry and the Academy will hate her for winning one? It sounds strange but winning one usually builds hostility except when it doesn’t.

I think maybe a more lighthearted, kind of naive character that can be really heartbreaking as well. Like in enchanted actually. Perhaps in a black comedy or more serious dramedy and being one of the great oscar winning comedic performances like Frances McDormand and Diane Keaton.

Amy Adams and Woody Allen? Could they have success if they worked together? I’m liking @pipipopo‘s idea of a naive character rooted in sadness. She could pull that off.

She should work with Aronofsky or Frears, they know how to get a great performance from an actress. She needs to move beyond her comfort zone and really challenge herself.

Or wait until she is 70 and get one honorary Oscar and call it a day.
