A few months back, I posted a topic about whether Isla Fisher is capable of becoming the next Amy Adams, given the possibility that the Academy might lose interest in Adams for playing different incarnations or subversions of the same character in many of her films, and Fisher being offered increasingly baity roles in films like Nocturnal AnimalsThe Beach Bum, and The Starling.

I have to admit, it was kind of stupid for me at the time to imply that Adams is losing steam, especially since she is currently the favorite to win Best Supporting Actress for Backseat. However, I’m starting to notice something else about Adams that only validates my gut feeling about future Oscar chances not only for Fisher, but also for Jessica Chastain and Bryce Dallas-Howard.

Has anyone noticed that Adams seems to be trying to move into the dark crime thriller genre? I mean, think about it. Nocturnal AnimalsSharp ObjectsA True AmericanThe Woman in the Window.  This raises two important questions.

    1. What do you think this means for people like Fisher, Chastain, and Dallas-Howard? With Adams busy doing all these darker roles, will producers start offering roles they would normally offer to Adams to these three actresses?
    2. Also, what do you think this means for people like Rosamund Pike, who I believe may have more difficulty getting the roles they traditionally get as a result of Adams’ recent career choices?

I can’t think of another actress needlessly spoken about so much on these forums.

I just saw the other thread after initially posting here. Why did you feel the need to make another thread when the same exact discussion is going on there?

The only reason that other thread is at the top of the hot topics at all is because someone saw it and brought it back to life. It was dead for about 2 1/2 months before that.

When I saw that someone had brought it back, I initially attempted to put this discussion in the old thread, but then I thought, “you know what?” This is an old topic. Most people might not see my latest thoughts on the topic unless I created a new topic. And hence, this topic was born.

I actually wanted the old topic to drop off the hot topics list so the conversation can continue on this topic, but there’s nothing I can do about it now. Other people are commenting on it now.

What an odd comparison and pointless discussion.

They’re all redheaded women so must be compared? They have managed to coexist for this long, I’m sure they’ll manage to continue.

And yet you didn’t get the hint?

I did get the hint. Someone else brought it back to life, not me.

    Read my post again.

I’m not asking for comparisons between Adams and other actresses talent-wise.

I’m asking for predictions on how Hollywood executives will react to Adams’ seemingly deciding to move towards a particular genre, and whether this will positively affect some actresses and negatively affect others.

On a related note, does anybody know how to disable commenting on topics that you think are outdated and want to continue with newer information in a different thread? You know, so people can stop commenting on the old topic and comment only on this one?

I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
