My vote would have been for Fernanda with Cate and Emily being close. Looking back makes me realize that Emily Watson has been shortchanged with the Oscars. Emily would have been a deserving nominee for Supporting Actress for Gosford Park.

Bates is massively overrated around here. Her ham has a lot of conviction but not the depth to be treated as one of the best ever like this. I’m flabbergasted how literally everyone has her as the best of 1990, that’s some kind of MTV Movie Awards result. Have ya’ll not seen Huston (masterclass) or Janda (one of the best depictions ever of being tortured in prison)?

Holly Hunter the best winner of the 90s, I fear. At least, she’s the one that has aged the best with me. Emma Thompson too, even though I think she has delivered better performances. I really liked Jodie Foster in The Silence of the Lambs, but to be honest, the more I think about it the more I think Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon should’ve won for Thelma & Louise.
