I think just tell people to vote over other actors because those actors r locks and revealing how many votes an actor needs, ect. needs to be banned and especially from social media

the amount of votes needed was published on variety

frances fisher is not involved with the movie in any way. rules are for those working in the campaign or affiliated with the movie officially, not for friends etc who decide to post something on their personal instagram

Based on performance, Riseborough is a deserving nominee and I don’t think she should be punished for this. However, I believe the investigation should be completed and that Frances Fisher should be suspended for a year at the minimum, and any others with similar actions as her as well.

Going forward, Acting categories should have 6 nominees. People complaining about the “prestige” going away, but like… it’s adding ONE more spot to each category lmao. Which most likely would’ve added Cruise, Deadwyler, De Leon, and Dano/Redmayne. It would be a mixed bag of great/not so great nominee additions. but I think it would be worth it overall.

and I think the academy should start doing shortlists of 15-20 performances for each category as well. I don’t support the concept of a jury for the academy but I think the creation of shortlists, plus expanding the categories to six, would do good for the overall diversity of the nominations

Agreed on having more than five nominees. Why are they ten Best Picture nominees, and yet the acting categories are restricted to five?

Beginning next year, they should extend the amount of nominees to 6 to 7, this would avoid the amount of baffling snubs, yearly backlash the Academy gets. The prestige would not even go away, as a matter of fact, by opening the pool, the Academy gets to recognize many more great performances.

Screw prestige. Five nominees is not enough to get a strong cross section of different types of performances, actors at different stages of their career, performances in films of different budgets. 6 (even 8, or, as noted, longlists) would more than likely be a better representation of film history at this point. I have no idea what would be lost by expanding categories outside of a few people screwing their noses up at things. Film snobs need to get over themselves or 23 people in New York will be the only people who watch the Oscars.

the Academy should learned from the BAFTAs I mean, their nominations this year in the directing and acting categories (Aside from Hsu, Henry and WELLS missing) are pretty outstanding overall.

This all sounds like a page out of the Republican playbook. My person didn’t get nominated/didn’t win, so let’s keep changing the voting rules so they can. Instead of admiring the sheer brilliance and common sense of the Andrea Riseborough strategy. Supporters of a performance actually putting their own credibility on the line by encouraging others to see it. Supporters putting their own time and money on the line by inviting voters into their home to see the performance. All the complainers should try that strategy next year — or is that too much work?

the baftas hate their results and have changed their rules 3 times in 3 years, so idk if one should worship them.

nice hyperbole, never said they should worship them, but that they should learn from their changes, which all I advocated for were shortlists and expanding the acting and directing categories to 6. most of BAFTAs rule changes involved a Jury, which I don’t think the Academy needs.

Why don’t we complete the investigation before deciding to suspend anyone?

I’m troubled by what happened but it seems to me that the existing AMPAS rules are inadequate; it may turn out that no existing rule was violated by Fisher, or anyone else.

without the jury, several of the bafta noms wouldn’t have happened esp POC.

Lol this just screams some people’s Stan groups are sore losers and we know the PR firms and studios are fucking pissed they got outplayed and had overpaid for marketing and campaigning over someone who just had friends and colleagues vote her in.

If actual Academy rules were violated, then Riseborough’s nomination should be rescinded. The emergency governors meeting will be juicy.

    According to Variety:

A studio can only purchase one e-mail blast per week. Variety can also confirm that “To Leslie” sent at least three e-mail blasts sent to AMPAS voters, which would have been purchased by Momentum Pictures or Riseborough’s campaign team, including Narrative PR and Shelter PR.

Harvey Weinstein was famous for his huge Oscar campaigning budgets. Netflix copied Harvey Weinstein in that aspect. Netflix had a huge campaign for Roma and it was, probably, the most expensive Oscar campaign of all time. The Oscars need to have a limit for Oscar campaigning budgets
