Although the Academy doesn’t bar voice acting performances from being nominated, no voice acting performance has ever actually been nominated for an Oscar.

Which voice acting performances do you believe should have been nominated?

And note that I’m not talking about nominations for a theoretical “Best Voice Actor” category. I’m talking about actual nominations for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress.

For example, I personally believe a good case existed for Robin Williams being nominated for Best Supporting Actor for voicing the Genie in Aladdin.

James Earl Jones and Jeremy Irons would easily get nominated for The Lion King for their iconic and powerful characters

    Amy Poehler, Inside Out

Paige O’Hara, Beauty and the Beast

Charlize Theron, Kubo and the Two Strings

    Ellen DeGeneres, Finding Nemo

    Best Supporting Actor

Eddie Murphy should’ve won Best Supporting Actor for Shrek. That BAFTA nomination was so inspired, when they used to be good.

Eddie Murphy should have fucking swept everything! He was so fucking good! One of the best male supporting performances of the last thirty years. And there’s no exaggeration here.

That’s a fairly bold assertion. So, you’re claiming that Eddie Murphy’s voice overs tops the following Best Supporting Actors winners (I limited my list to seven deserving Oscar winners).

    1. Kevin Kline as Otto in A Fish Called Wanda

    2. Denzel Washington as Trip in Glory

    3. Joe Pesci as Tommy DeVito in GoodFellas

    4. Robin WIlliams as Sean McGuire in Good Will Hunting

    5. Javier Bardem as Anton Chirugh in No Country for Old Men

    6. Heath Ledger as Joker in The Dark Knight

    7. Christoph Waltz as Colonel Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds

She didn’t say tops, she said one of the best. And yes, this performance was better than Waltz’s. Argue with your mama

Each of the Shrek films had their own standout; Murphy, Saunders, (well none for the third), and Diaz. I recently watched the fourth one and didn’t realize how good she was. No wonder she got that Annie nomination.
