green book also didn’t get a single ballot
It did though. Even Goldderby published GB favourable ballots.
It was 1917 that barely got any mentions.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 28, 2023 at 4:48 pm #1205326850We will just have the top 8 categories like we always do. It’s very difficult to get people to commit, and I can’t imagine asking them to give us more time and effort than that.

Lol this could so easily repeat with Riseborough this year. A bunch of voters say “yeah you know what she’s actually my favorite” and then pundits predict her to win. Now I acknowledge that we all live in glass houses, I fell for this trick last year; but now that I know better I feel like it may just be hilarious to see this unfold.

Everything Everywhere All at Once for everything, everywhere, all at onceFebruary 28, 2023 at 11:04 pm #1205327149The SAG ballots this year also told us about Fraser. Sure, as a rule it’s for the best to not predict based on them but completely disregarding them can be a mistake.
I do generally agree with this. I think it’s more important to consider consistent themes and sentiments amongst voters than it is to actually take the votes themselves and say “well clearly so and so is winning”. It wasn’t just that people were voting for Hopkins it’s that they were all saying “I know Chadwick’s gonna win but I love Hopkins more”. It also really only helps in split races anyway, and even then it doesn’t always turn out that way.

Everything Everywhere All at Once for everything, everywhere, all at onceMarch 1, 2023 at 4:34 am #1205327335We will not publish any of ours until after voting is over. I can’t believe some of these other websites are willing to post earlier than that.
Thanks Chris and that’s how it should be.

I prefer my roses whiteMarch 1, 2023 at 6:59 am #1205327480It is up to each one to make a mistake with these ballots. My tip is to base it on what we’ve actually seen happening in guilds and bafta. LA Times working on Tar’s behalf by releasing this before the vote is over, shame.

not surprising considering tár won best picture, director, actress, and screenplay at LAFCA

ReplyCopy URLMarch 1, 2023 at 5:33 pm #1205328402I’m back with a document of anonymous ballots (year three!)! Obviously, this is mostly for fun, but it’s nice to keep track of them. I’ll make a spreadsheet in due time.

If anyone’s by chance interested in the previous two years, here they are: 2022 and 2021.

Tar has by far the best direction of any film. Blanchett is amazing but Tar is just a well made film.

No. To me, it’s similar to saying that Emerald Fennell is the star of Promising Young Woman. They are both films with a dominant lead performance which would not have existed without the writer/director.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 6, 2023 at 7:57 am #1205334585I listened to Matt Neglia’s podcast over at NextBestPicture. When discussing the Director race, he said that he has spoken to several anonymous Oscar voters, and NONE of them voted for Daniels.
I have long suspected that EEAAO can’t have it that easy come Oscar night, and I’ve always thought Director could very well be the most likely category where either Todd Field or Steven Spielberg could upset. Am I reading too much or is this very much a cause for concern? Thoughts?
