I am quite sad and sick after reading this article about allegations against Casey Affleck ( . ) I love Manchester by the sea and dont want the reception of the movie to suffer because of what he did a few years ago. However after the whole controversy surrounding Nate Parker and Birth of the Nation suffering because of it, I fear his and its chances for some Oscar love are going to suffer.

Doubt any controversy will affect him receiving a nod. Although such a controversy would make him a less desirable candidate for the win.

Still seems a tad under-the-radar but something like this can easily explode, especially over social media.

Did you read the accounts of the two women suing him? Yes, he didnt rape any of them, but the sexual harassment was behind awful and they didnt have any power to go against this harassment. The same happened with the victim in the Nate Parker case, who killed herself after it.
There are a few things, I dont understand why one of them would agree to work again with him but why would any of them lie. Both have been successful before and still are.
I dont know what happened but if I really was innocent why did he settle and didnt let it go to trial? I guess a lot of people are agree, that the media doesnt jump on it in the same way, they jumped on Parker´s case.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 23, 2016 at 12:57 pm #1201956080An Oscar nomination/win really shouldn’t be dependent upon old news that has been settled and contradicted by several of the film’s other (female) crew members.
Nate Parker’s situation was different but also still shouldn’t have affected his film as it did. I don’t know. If people choose not to support a film because of the star’s alleged past then fine, but there’s really no reason for any of this to resurface at this point other than character assassination.

Yes I did, it is harassment at best and it is not as horrible as rape is, and that is the universal reality.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 23, 2016 at 1:21 pm #1201956091Harassment is still bad. Don’t trivialize it.

Sorry, if I came off judgemental. Of course, its not the same and I didnt mean to imply that it is. I have a hart time separating my enjoyment for his performence and especially for the movie from this ugly news. I know now how supporters of Birth of the Nation felt after news about Parker came out.
