We many have different reasons for dreading this year’s Oscars – for me it’s mostly that I will be FURIOUS if Casey Affleck is robbed by Denzel Washington for his dreadful performance in Fences ): Casey gave the year’s best performance by an actor, period. For those of you who disagree, fine, I get it, you will be happy and I will not be if that happens.

I have resigned myself to Mahersala Ali but I will never ever understand it. So undeserved.

Viola Davis is the best thing about the otherwise atrocious Fences. I don’t have a problem with her winning. She isn’t my choice but she is a solid choice.

I also really want Manchester by the Sea to win for Best Original Screenplay. La La Land’s screenplay was great too so at least it won’t lose to a bad film.

I wish Lion would win at least one Oscar. Supporting Actor, Adapted Screenplay or Cinematography – even though I would prefer Lucas Hedges I would be thrilled for Dev Patel to win.

While I like Emma Stone, I would forgive them all of their sins this year if they would give Isabelle Huppert the Best Actress Oscar.

I will enjoy La La Land’s wins but I have the feeling there will be huge disappointments and a need to rant and rave afterwards! At least awards season will FINALLY be over!

I too just want to be released from this hell of shit mostly irrelevant to my life. La La Land is continuing the streak of Best Picture winners I disagree with. And while I’d be overjoyed if Affleck wins, as I have been a fan of his for years and considered his performance one of the best of the year — this ugly bitchy negativity I’ve read to the point where someone must have either his or Denzel’s name on Google Alerts so they can swoop in and shit all over one of them… Like, Jesus, neither of them are suffering. One of them will lose, go home and gently wipe away his single tear with one of his dozens of other awards and accolades. And even I can’t understand how worked up I am about it when I’ve been shitting all over the Oscars being political popularity bullshit for years. Smh

Best Actress… I just can’t compare Stone and Huppert. I’m least invested in supporting actor, I’d be happy with any winner. Supporting actress is also full of gems but Davis is a treasure and 100% worthy of her lock.

The Huppert win will make it worthwhile. Keep the faith!

What I’m dreading is people’s ability to open a thread for just about anythign that pops into their head. And the lack of moderators on GoldDerby. Whatever happened to those people?

    Casey will win.

    “No, Jamal, you be trippin’.”

I’ve accepted that La La Land will win a lot of awards it doesn’t necessarily deserve, but if it wins Original Screenplay I swear to God….

You’ve worked yourself up into a frenzy this year. You’re at fault for feeling dread at potential outcomes which were foreshadowed throughout the season.

I’m rooting for Huppert and Washington. If neither pans out I won’t be losing sleep nor cursing the Academy for their shortsightedness. Although, in the case of Huppert I know she’s emotionally invested in getting the actual win. No way would she go through the theatrics solely for nomination purposes. It felt good to hear her name called and receive an honor for her acting on American soil. She deserves it. Emma Stone gave a nice performance in the best picture front runner. Her winning would be business as usual.

Casey winning would disappoint me without crushing me. Get over your shit about nominees you dislike.

What is it with these stupid ass threads from you? Anyway, the Oscars this year feel boring and the least hyped it’s been in years because everybody knows who is going to win.

The fact that you remember that line makes La La Land’s screenplay worth winning! A screenplay win shouldn’t always go to the most depressing one! No wonder, comedians always complain how comedy is always overlooked at these “serious” events!

ME, specifically when I watch all the Moonlight worshipping TROLLS rejoice when it inevitably wins Best Picture, becoming the new WORST winner ever of that award.

“Sigh” Hopefully next years Best Picture winner won’t be absolute garbage. 🙁

On the bright side, since Hell or High Water and (after WGA) Hidden Figures won’t be winning anything, it makes me even more objective than I usually am in predicting these awards shows, meaning I could have a better score in getting the Oscar winners correct. 🙂

Dude you gotta get into the acceptance stage of grief, you seem to be stuck in the ‘angry’ stage.

I was emotionally invested for Natalie to win, and while I still want her to, I have accepted that it would take either a vote split or some sort of Oscar miracle and I will be delighted for Isabelle to win and if Emma does then that is fair dues to her and I will look on to next year.

I’m not fussed on the other categories, I know Viola will win, I would be happy for any Supporting actors to win and if Casey wins then yay and if Denzel wins then yay, both amazing performances.

What I have learned from this particular awards season is that I should never attach myself to a role. Tom O’Neil stated in one of his best actress discussions that ‘divorcing’ yourself from a role is the best thing you can do, and the sooner the better so you can actually enjoy the awards. I divorced myself from Natalie’s role and watched Elle again and even watched LLL again and came to the conclusion that I wouldn’t be fussed on the outcome.

The guidelines are here for thread creation (from 2014).

I’m curious if anyone thinks there will be any ties in any category. It happened somewhat recently, in one of the sound categories in 2012 with Skyfall and Zero Dark Thirty. I’m predicting La La Land won’t sweep 100% but may tie in votes with an alternative category? I doubt it will tie itself in songs though, that would be shocking.
