I know there is currently a boycott on the GG Awards and HFPA in affect and that the 2022 GG’s will not be televised, do you guys think this means that the GG awards are dead and buried for good or is there a chance that the HFPA will make significant changes to increase representation and that the GG’s awards will live to see another day?

Why is it better to give influence to so-called “journalists” instead of critics?

A single non-industry body alone influencing races in not a good thing. It’s better to have two separate non-industry bodies (globes and critics) to influence and mould the race.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 6, 2021 at 6:28 pm #1204632402They are totally over. The press they’ve received has been beyond terrible and I’ve heard plenty of people who were fed up with dealing with the HFPA. After people send their awards back and you get pulled from televised awards I don’t think there is a path back.

ReplyCopy URLDecember 6, 2021 at 9:02 pm #1204632671Lol. They’re the second most well-known award body for films and tv shows. I’m sure given some time and some changes, they’ll be back.

December 6, 2021 at 9:15 pm #1204632694Would hurt some contenders in musicals to have no Globes in a big musical year

They were not forcing anyone to get influenced by them. The Academy and the others should be held responsible for allowing the Globes decide who they reward and not making their own choices. It is the sheep mentality that should be stopped so we can be having pleasant surprises.

That’s a a really good counter argument.

So get rid of an actual industry award? I think AFTRA shouldn’t get to vote, but to get rid of the SAG Awards altogether would just make no sense. And thankfully it’ll never happen.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 7, 2021 at 1:37 am #1204632964I really love what the HFPA’s new diversity officer said in a recent interview. He really seems to get it where perhaps the rest of their board haven’t been:
“The danger is expecting there to be a sort of immediate fix. If the HFPA is seen giving a certain number of awards to talent of color, creatives of color, then the HFPA is fixed. It just doesn’t work that way. The notion of thinking that this is going to be some quick fix as a result of what awards are handed out in the coming weeks, that’s not what we should be looking for.”
