What are some movies that you’ve enjoyed or considered great, but someone gave a bad performance in the movie?

It hurts me because she’s a fellow Australian, but I really didn’t enjoy Abbie Cornish in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. That accent 😳

Denethor in ROTK. I forgot the actor’s name and he was really great on Fringe but that was just bad moustache twirling performance.

Blanchett in Aviator. Maybe not all the way but at least first half of the movie, she was so artifical and mannered I thought I was watching a caricature. No wonder she won for it and not for a better performance.

Sophie Marceau and the actor who played her gay husband in Braveheart. They really sucked. He was a caricature and she was a plank of wood with perpetually pouty lips. No wonder she never translated into a Hollywod star. I remember she was trash in one of James Bond movies too.

That other Frenchie in the first Mission Impossible. Awful.

Marion Cotillard’s iconic death in TDKR.

    Their names

John Noble hes an australian actor agree with You not very good in LOTR ROTK
Didnt like Blanchett and Marceu in their respective films
Emmanuelle Béart is the french actress from Mission Imposible very famous in her Home Town
Someone I did like is Marion Cotillard in TDKR but her Death was hilarious I don’t know why they didnt write something better for her in that scene…

I’ll agree with two listed here.

Abbie Cornish in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri: Between her accent and the very noticeable age difference between her and Harrelson, she just came across as very distracting. I feel like another actress could’ve done really great work with her part, but Cornish just didn’t work for me.

Marion Cotillard in The Dark Knight Rises: For the most part, her performance is perfectly fine. But nobody remembers that, they just remember her death scene. And yeah, it’s shockingly bad. She’s an excellent actress, but that scene is so weirdly sudden, it took what should’ve been a a great, dramatic moment, and turned it into comedy.

As for some that nobody mentioned…

Katie Holmes in Batman Begins: Not really particularly bad stuff, but like Cornish, she just I really sticks out like a sore thumb here. The performance feels much worse when you see Maggie Gyllenhaal in The Dark Knight. While Gyllenhaal comes across as a strong woman who easily stands her ground against others, Holmes just felt like a kid acting opposite adults (didn’t help that she looked so young).

Timothee Chalamet in Little Women: On paper, he seems like a great fit for his role, but I found the execution very lacking. While he’s meant to come across as super charming, I thought he made the part often seem overly smug and full of himself, and unlike the other actors, he never felt convincing in the time period, with his mannerisms and delivery feeling weirdly modern. And finally, I just never saw sparks between him and Florence Pugh. It felt like she had feelings for him, but his constant aloofness in their scenes made it seem like his character’s feelings for her were nonexistent, and ironically, he had better chemistry with Ronan, the girl he doesn’t end up with.

Bill Nighy and Andy Linden in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. I know their roles are just brief but I must say they’re both miscast and gave an awful performances.

Matthew Broderick in Glory. He was so stiff. I like Glory though.

Some did. I didn’t buy him as Sean Parker, he was JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE…as sean parker. I think he was trying to coast on charm more than acting, to me at least. That’s why I chose him.

    Katie Holmes: Batman Begins
    Keanu Reeves: Dracula

And I actually thought Marion Cotillard was perfect as Talia in The Dark Knight Rises

Marion had it until that death scene.

Where is she? She was like the most promising actress at one point.

What exactly do you mean by “Where is she?”
She received a second Oscar nomination in 2015 for “Deux jours, une nuit”, becoming one of the few people to be nominated more than once for performances in a foreign language. She will also be the protagonist of the next Leo Carax film with Adam Driver, probably going to debut in Cannes next year.

Lucas Hedges – Manchester By the Sea

That freezer scene was supposed to be sad, but his acting ruined it.
