I’m sure one year they announced them at 7am so I had to set my alarm… wonder why it’s later?
They’ve announced at 8am UK time in the past, but the previous years it’s been around midday.

Well we know what that means.

There is almost no way Austin wasn’t top 3.

The youngest BAFTA Rising Star winner was Kristen Stewart at 19, and by the time she won she’d already filmed her third Twilight movie. Tom Holland was 20 when he won.
Fun facts: some Rising Star nominees who LOST- Michelle Williams, Andrew Garfield, Emily Blunt, Emma Stone, Margot Robbie, Eddie Redmayne, Ruth Negga, Timothee Chalamet, Lupita Nyong’o, Michael Fassbender, Jessie Buckley, Florence Pugh, Cynthia Erivo, Brie Larson, Anya Taylor-Joy, Elizabeth Olsen, Alicia Vikander, and… Andrea Riseborough,

The Father: Longlisted in 9 categories (7 nominations)
The Mauritanian: 11 longlist mentions (5 nominations)
Nomadland: Longlisted in 8 categories (7 nominations)
Promising Young Woman: longlisted in 13 categories (6 nominations)
The Trial of the Chicago 7: 14 longlist mentions (3 nominations)Best Film:
Belfast: 14 longlist mentions (6 nominations)
Don’t Look Up: 15 longlist mentions (4 nominations)

Licorice Pizza: 11 longlist mentions (5 nominations)
The Power of the Dog: 14 longlist mentions (8 nominations)Mank: 14 longlist mentions (6 nominations)
West Side Story: 15 longlist mentions (5 nominations)These two didn’t get Best Film.
All Quiet: 15
The Banshees of Inisherin: 14
Elvis: 12
Everything Everywhere All At Once: 12
Aftersun, TAR, Top Gun: Maverick: 8I assume Banshees and EEAAO are in. I also think it’s hard for Elvis to miss considering the amount of tech support + acting it will probably have. Baz Lurhmann also was among the TOP 5 male directors and has some goodwill among the british academy. Will All Quiet be like Mank and West Side Story ?
Top Gun got longlisted in all categories it was expected to and it actually overperformed with a Director mention. I think it’s getting nominated.
Aftersun could’ve gotten Cinematography and Frankie Corio. TAR could’ve gotten Nina Hoss and Editing (although it did get Cinematography, Score and Sound, which was pretty good). I think the Nina Hoss and Editing misses are way louder misses since Score was probably a namecheck.

1. Everything Everywhere All at Once
2. Banshees of Inisherin
3. Top Gun Maverick
4. Elvis
5. AftersunDefinitely underestimating All Quiet but just have a feeling the longlists may have been misleading. TAR is actually the one I’m more aware of as a spoiler. Also think Fabelmans could shock based on the second round vote.
DIRECTOR
1. Everything Everywhere All at Once
2. Banshees of Inisherin
3. TAR – will get in with jury even if not main
4. Aftersun
5. Decision to Leave
6. The Quiet GirlLast two slots could be anything. Juries gonna jury.
ACTRESS
1. Yeoh
2. Blanchett
3. Deadwyler – locked with juries I think due to performance and diversity combo
4. Thompson – most jury friendly movie. Could miss though. Equally could have been top 3 all along.
5. Davis – would be less certain if this longlist hadn’t turned out so mainstream
6. De Armas – Has never felt top 3 to me but Williams’ SAG miss has me wondering so am punting with her.ACTOR
1. Butler
2. Farrell
3. Nighy – Got into Film probably on the strength of his performance. Assume juries would nominate anyway
4. Mescal – Could be top 3. Surely jury will nominate
5. McCormack – In the most jury favouring film of the two POC longlist names. Kind of rising star that juries probably think they are for.
6. Krammerer – Rising star and foreign language film seems good for the jury.Fraser gets in if he is top 3
SUPPORTING ACTRESS
1. Condon – the only lock
2. Curtis – I reckon top 3 at the time of voting
3. De Leon – Triange overperformed and feel confident a jury would pick even if not top 3
4. Wood – Feels like the only surefire jury pick
5. Lynch – British, performance and diversity should be a good combo
6. Chau – I’m certain it’s her Monae or Bassett for this final slot. Ended up going with the one that had the best notices as assume the jury will default to the performance.Bassett could be top 3 but would be relatively surprising given BP’s performance elsewhere.
SUPPPORTING ACTOR
1. Gleeson
2. Quan
3. Keoghan – Assume a locked top 3
4. Ward – Only POC available and a British rising star
5. Schuch – Same reasons as Krammerer
6. Whishaw – If I get this wrong it’s wolfali’s fault bc he convinced me with his post the other day. Harrelson would be the alt.January 18, 2023 at 8:19 am #12052505486. Whishaw – If I get this wrong it’s wolfali’s fault bc he convinced me with his post the other day. Harrelson would be the alt.
It really has me on edge because I just don’t know how the juries are going to respond to him being the only Women Talking representative on the long-list but really my main justification for it is that I just don’t see a jury going for Hanks, Pitt or Redmayne and him and Harrelson more or less have the same things going for each other. I’d be very surprised if the lineup doesn’t come from 6 of those 7.
FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.
