I can’t with the the Tom Burke nomination. He didn’t do anything.

That’s like nominating Jack Farthing for Spencer.

Incredibly disappointed Holy Spider was paid dust, it’s chances at BAFTA are even slimmer now.

Iranian artists are literally being silenced every day, it would have been nice for these critics awards to show solidarity by mentioning this movie…

    FYC:

Zar Amir Ebrahimi - Holy Spider (Best Actress)
Ana de Armas, Julianne Nicholson - Blonde (Best Actress, Supporting Actress)
Samantha Morton - She Said (Best Supporting Actress)
Kerry Condon - The Banshees of Inisherin (Best Supporting Actress)

Women Talking is in serious trouble.

I agree. Though I think Women Talking has a better shot at BAFTA because it’s quite middle-brow that the generally high-brow LFCC may not have been well receptive to. I don’t think WT will make it in Best Film, but I could see Sarah Polley be a jury save in Director. As for Supporting Actress, its possible Foy and Buckley become jury saves as well since the reception of their performances have been muted all season long. It’s also possible that Foy and Buckley’s performances just aren’t performances that are competitive at major awards bodies. I sadly remember thinking Dunst was a shoo-in at BAFTA based on the critical acclaim she had garnered, which both WT ladies lack.

Michelle (Yeoh, Williams) Oscar campaign manager.

    FYC:
Best Picture: Banshees of Inisherin, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Decision to Leave
Best Director: Park Chan-Wook Todd Field
Best Original Screenplay: Banshees of Inisherin, Everything Everywhere All At Once
    Best Actor: Colin Farrell
Best Actress: Michelle Yeoh, Cate Blanchett, Tang Wei
Best Supporting Actor: Brendan Gleeson, Ke Huy Quan
Best Supporting Actress: Kerry Condon, Nina Hoss

It feels like Women Talking has a goldilocks problem. The high-brow crowd didn’t take to it, but I could also see the middle-brow crowd not having much patience for it either. I thought at the very least Whishaw or Buckley would get namechecked here in roomier categories and they didn’t. I agree about Polley potentially getting the jury save at BAFTA if they don’t go for smaller films.

Yikes. The way they ignored it. It’s disappointing that such an important movie doesn’t seem to connect with voters this season.

Baz Luhrmann is definately getting a nomination especially after AACTA

Unless he’s top2 with the membership in the longlist phase, no way in hell he’s getting in lmao. A jury ain’t touching him.

He’s not top 2 at BAFTA and just like estrelas said no way he would be a jury pick. Top 2 will be McDonagh and Daniels/Field.

My attempt at the nominations (although it’s useless before the longlist)

    Best Film
    Avatar: The Way of Water
    The Banshees of Inisherin
    Everything Everywhere All At Once
    The Fabelmans
    Top Gun: Maverick

Best Director (I know Spielberg is not getting snubbed, but you never know)
Edward Berger – All Quiet on the Western Front
    Alice Diop – Saint Omer
Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert – Everything Everywhere All At Once
Martin McDonagh – The Banshees of Inisherin
    Charlotte Wells – Aftersun
Park Chan Wook – Decision To Leave

Also, I realized I was only predicting one woman, and that didn’t feel right. I think Diop will show up, but I think Field could be picked by the jury. Berger could be seem as a longshot, but his direction is just bonkers. I think the jury will go for him, if he makes the longlist.

    Best Actor
    Austin Butler – Elvis
Colin Farrell – The Banshees of Inisherin
    Brendan Fraser – The Whale
    Paul Mescal – Aftersun
    Bill Nighy – Living
    Jeremy Pope – The Inspection

    Best Actress
    Ana de Armas – Blonde
    Cate Blanchett – TAR
    Danielle Deadwyler – Till
    Vicky Krieps – Corsage
    Michelle Williams – The Fabelmans
Michelle Yeoh – Everything Everywhere All At Once

    Supporting Actor
Brendan Gleeson – The Banshees of Inisherin
Ke Huy Quan – Everything Everywhere All At Once
Barry Keoghan – The Banshees of Inisherin
Mark Rylance – Bones and All
    Bryan Tyree Henry – Causeway
    Ben Wishaw – Women Talking

    Supporting Actress
    Nina Hoss – TAR
Stephanie Hsu – Everything Everywhere All At Once
Jamie Lee Curtis – Everything Everywhere All At Once
Dolly De Leon – Triangle of Sadness
    Gabrielle Union – The Inspection
    Aimee Lou Wood – Living

Yes, I’m currently (because I’m dumb) predicting a Condon snub. I think BAFTA winner Curtis, Hsu and De Leon might end up as the TOP 3. I’ll be surprised if Hoss doesn’t get picked by the jury and no idea if someone from Women Talking will get in (if they can overcome votesplitting I could see the jury going for Foy or even Ivey and not Buckley)

    Original Screenplay
    The Banshees of Inisherin
    Everything Everywhere All At Once
    The Fabelmans
    TAR
    Triangle of Sadness or Aftersun

Adapted Screenplay (I think The Wonder will get in here, I just don’t know which movie will miss)

    Glass Onion
    Living
    She Said
    Women Talking
    The Whale

Best Film Not in the English Language
All Quiet on the Western Front
Bardo (And the False Chronicles of Half Truths)
    Close
    Decision To Leave
    The Quiet Girl

    Animated Feature
    Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio
    Puss in Boots
    Turning Red
