I think that was more of an FU to JLo than a show of support for Once.

I think it’s less of an FU and more that Hustlers was just not a BAFTA film and not high priority for voters in the UK. And also, if Robbie’s nomination wasn’t on some level support for Once and explicitly an FU to JLo, wouldn’t they have nominated somebody else other than Robbie’s Once role?

Can’t wait for all the acting winners’ speeches especially Renée’s. She really deserves all the praise she’s getting, portraying Judy Garland was a very difficult task but she did it so gracefully and with such a touching performance.

You didn’t see Tracie Bennett in the play Over the Rainbow. It’s basically the same story and Bennett was amazing. Zellweger can’t move her face any more so I had a hard time knowing if she was actually emoting. It’s a nice imitation though.

We wouldn’t get to see her perform this at the Oscars, but I’m glad that it will happen in another awards show.

As someone who predicted Roma to win Picture at BAFTA last year, and is predicting Parasite to win Picture at the Oscars this year, I am currently predicting 1917 to win Picture at BAFTA. The Favourite while a British film was not really in the Oscar race to win Best Picture whatsoever unlike 1917 which won PGA, DGA, and the Globe.

explain Gravity failing to win then? it’s a British film that won DGA & PGA (a tie but still a win).

Gravity is a British film on paper only. 1917 is a British story with British actors, writers and director.
