I’m feeling conflicted about Rocks. While it led nominations, I feel like it’s hype is somewhat manufactured from the jury. The only category I think it really has a chance in is supporting actress and that is because Colman/Foster were snubbed whom would probably be competitive for a win here. Casting, while seeming strong on paper, might just not have the support it needs to beat PYW. For lead, I really can’t see McDormand or Kirby losing this. Bukkray’s performance while strong is not showy enough to steal enough votes.

Actress I feel is between Kirby and Bakray. McDormand is not overdue for a second BAFTA or whatever that narrative is and she is already getting her second from Nomadland’s best picture win here. I ultimately went with Bakray since Rocks is a much more competitive film than Pieces of a Woman which is an American film with very little support. Kirby is a celebrated Brit and is in The Crown but her film really drags her down as the sole nomination. She does have the advantage of being a Volpi Cup winner as BAFTA has a good record of rewarding the Volpi Cup winner  but winners such as Colman, Stone, and Mirren were in Best Picture nominees.

In a non jury year I still think Bakray would get in the fifth slot. Her biggest British competitor was Kate Winslet and Ammonite flopped in all its long list categories except for costume while Rocks got in original screenplay and British film. I mean is BAFTA race problem that prominent that they don’t nominate Bakray? Honestly possible.

I have McDormand because when BAFTA cannot align with the Oscars, they go with the London Film Critics’ Circle (Rachel Weisz, Kate Winslet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Bakhad Abdi).

I am literally losing sleep right now over documentary.

I honestly think My Octopus Teacher is sweeping at this point forward.

McDormand just doesn’t feel like a winner over here ; there’s no passion for her …I don’t know if Kirby or Buckey will win, but I’ll be very surprised if McDormand does

Ocopus will easily win best Doc over ”Collective” at Bafta , then go onto to win Oscar IMO

I’m currently predicting Chadwick Boseman, Bukky Bakray, Kosar Ali and Daniel Kaluuya for the acting categories. 4 black actors. Knowing the BAFTA history, it’s a bad idea isn’t it ?

I’m predicting the same winners since I couldn’t choose between Bukky and Kosar, but I doubt both of them will win. Surprisingly, there’s more support for the second one. But since I’m rooting for Youn, I hope Bakray wins. Although I want Kirby to win as well. My mind is such a mess!

    ⭐Best Actress - Carey Mulligan

    ⭐Best Supporting Actress - Youn Yuh-jung

Just switched to Maria Bakalova in Supporting Actress with Kosar Ali as the spoiler. As much as I want Youn to win BAFTA, I just don’t think Minari has strength here. It missed the longlist for Best Film and got snubbed in Writing.

I am literally losing sleep right now over documentary.

Personally it’s the Animated Category that makes me loosing sleep. I know Soul is the favorite but I believe Wolfwalkers is beloved in its own country and BAFTA’s are not Disney or Pixar sheeps like the Oscars.
The chose Kubo and the Two Strings over Zootopia, Lego Movie over Big Hero 6 (very inspired choice) and just last year they went with Klaus over Toy Story 4.

I know Soul is very strong and is also likely to win another award but I think Wolfalkers is strong enough to overcome this. Onward could also grab few crucial votes to Soul.

We could argue that Inside Out won over British beloved character Shaun the Sheep in 2016 but Inside Out was stronger than Soul with its Original Screenplay nom and Wolfwalkers is a more serious film than Shaun.
