The question remains: diversity this, inclusion that, should a jury of 7 people decide on such matter? Esp. over thousands of members? How forced is this? I mean they gave us Alan S. Kim and Alfre Woodard, two exceptional performances, so I obviously like some of their choices, but if we take the actual nominees out of the equation, is it a fair system to begin with?

no and that’s why it should be 50/50 at best

Couldn’t be more happy for Youn, Sound of Metal and Promising Young Woman!

I can’t wait to see her get the Oscar!!!

No less fair then a system where people are voting on movies that they’re actively boycotting.  At least the juries are required to watch movies on the long list.

Is last year’s lineup of 100% white actors “a fair system to begin with?”

no but snubbing deserved nominees just to get diversity is also not fair
not saying that nominees weren’t deserving but there were more deserving performances who could use this to build more hype for themselves
so that is why it should be both decided by jury and members. 50/50

Realistically, the purpose of the system was to try to deflect criticism for the Academy for its lack of interest in people of colour. But if we get year after year of obvious jury nominees never winning, it’s going to make the process look like pandering rathe than an actual, truly meaningful change.

We’re on year one, obviously tweeks will be administered as years pass by.

No system is 100% fair, tbh.

Juries are required to watch the films on the longlist before they vote, members aren’t. Making it 50/50 makes the whole purpose of the jury system irrelevant

So invite more members of color. Having juries to pander to actors of color is BS.

#12 for 2021 SAG Film Award Winners.

Isn’t this what those longlist are for?

That’s not a system. That is an end result based on the popular vote.

Prior to BAFTA, three of the major categories were still open races: Actress, Supporting Actress, and Adapted Screenplay.

Post-BAFTA, Youn is now a lock for Supporting Actress. Meanwhile, Actress and Adapted Screenplay are still open. The Actress race has narrowed down to Davis vs. McDormand, and the Adapted Screenplay race to The Father vs. Nomadland.

    This Alfre Woodard erasure.

Oh I meant from the Oscar 5, Frances is my favourite this year. Alfre Woodard is much superior and I was literally screaming with joy when I saw her get nominated here.
