I can’t wait to see Dame Shirley Bassey’s performance. She killed it at the 2013 Oscars and received a big standing ovation at the end. She’ll open the Baftas ceremony and I’m curious what the song will be. I feel like Goldfinger would be too obvious.
“Legendary singer Dame Shirley Bassey will open this year’s show at the Royal Albert Hall with an exclusive performance of an iconic Bond theme, celebrating 60 years of Britain’s most successful film franchise. British actress Emilia Jones, nominated for her performance in CODA, will also perform live during the ceremony, singing Joni Mitchell’s powerful ballad ‘Both Sides Now’, taken from the film.” (from Baftas website)March 10, 2022 at 8:20 pm #1204840586

and they had an interesting process for selecting the editing nominees — you can look it up — which also IMO explains why they matched 1/5 with the Oscars.
Unless I’m missing something, isn’t it the same as what it always has been, with the addition of just the longlist stage? The relevant chapter votes for the nominees (from the longlist) and the membership votes for the winners. The same as every other tech category apart from casting and the same as what it basically has been for years.March 11, 2022 at 5:55 am #1204840992

No, you are completely correct. I completely misread something — my bad! It’s still bizarre that the Oscars and BAFTA matched 1/5 though.March 11, 2022 at 6:46 am #1204841045
Smith winning CRITICS CHOICE over Cumberbatch.. these clowns have literally no shameMarch 11, 2022 at 6:55 am #1204841053
I’m not sure if I’m brave enough to predict it, but Flee going home empty handed here at BAFTA is weird given the last few weeks and the subject matter of the movie.
Its Oscars hopes will depend on whether it can beat Summer of Soul at BAFTA (which it already did at IDA and Cinema Eye Honor), but honestly ? Summer of Soul looks unstoppable as it even got a DGA nom and the movie doesn’t even have direction.
There’s also a very small chance it surprises in Animated Film like Klaus, Kubo and The Lego Movie, even if Encanto is 100% locked for the Oscar.March 11, 2022 at 7:30 am #1204841078
