as far as i can tell, Andrew is the only one to get a double mention for TEOTF. i thought Benedict might get a double mention for TELOLW as it’s a quintessentially British film but nope.
Oh lord some of you are so desperate for Garfield to be ahead of Cumberbatch lolJanuary 12, 2022 at 7:06 am #1204718373
No Mass except Dowd, and no Dakota Johnson 🙁 that’s all I noticed.
Passing & The Lost Daughter did really well!
Yes for some Passing love. It would have been nice to make the cinematography long list – didn’t expect top 5. I guess some don’t always see the beauty the way I do.
Life is a thin thread.
We hang on tightly knowing
it will snap one day.January 12, 2022 at 7:09 am #1204718425
I get the technicality of Passing being eligible but there is no other way that is a British film! Filmed in NYC with American performers. But I am happy for the movie, it was really good and had two outstanding performances by Tessa and Ruth.January 12, 2022 at 7:10 am #1204718451
I’m sure the actual nominations will be more respectable, though.January 12, 2022 at 7:11 am #1204718540
TTB definitely overperformed, or at least did as well as it could have. I’d dare to say it’s pretty much a BP lock now instead of being on the bubble.January 12, 2022 at 7:20 am #1204718785
So this longlist makes a SAG nomination even more imperative now for Cruz. If she doesn’t get in today, she’s finished.
Yup lol. She’s done. This was her worst case scenario. It’s all or nothing for her on SAG.January 12, 2022 at 7:20 am #1204718789

Belfast, House of Gucci and No Time to Die are all locked for British film. Two of Cyrano, Last Night in Soho and Passing seem likely to join them as the “membership picks” in the category if we’re going by the long-list.
"The Good Fight", "The Other Two" and "Station Eleven" in all categories, Sarah Lancashire ("Julia"), William Jackson Harper ("Love Life") and Luke Kirby ("The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel")January 12, 2022 at 8:04 am #1204719608
When can we predict BAFTA?January 12, 2022 at 8:30 am #1204719979

The British Film category is about the production *behind* the camera, not what the audience eventually sees in front of it.January 12, 2022 at 8:50 am #1204720178
Hoping Faist and Alvarez can have their moment to rally here to replace the Belfast dads come Oscar morningJanuary 12, 2022 at 8:59 am #1204720262
Licorice Pizza completely overperformed with those Casting, Cinematography (!!!), Costumes and Production Design mentions.January 12, 2022 at 9:15 am #1204720373
House of Gucci, Licorice Pizza, Cyrano, unsurprisingly No Time To Die overperforming on BAFTA longlists proves that MGM/UA excelled at their job.
I mean, even Respect was on shakier grounds but JHud still made the longlist (over Penelope Cruz!) and SAG nomination. They’re super nailing this year. Not now
