I feel like the Jude Hill snub confirms DeBose and Dunst are the top 2 for supporting actress.

Didn’t even notice he missed lmao. Well, I guess I’m more confident in Dunst and DeBose being top2 now.

They really liked HoG could be Gaga. I don’t follow the british film industry closely and I only know her from TV but could Joanna Scanlan be number 2?

Considering how mainstream the list is, Scanlan was probably picked by the jury, alongside Renate Reinsve and Claire Rushbrook.

So CODA is probably getting nominated for Casting, right ? The efforts for casting deaf actors can’t go unnoticed.

Hinds will probably be the only acting nom for Belfast at BAFTA.

I think so. It’s also a very ensemble heavy piece which is something we saw do quite well here last year.

    FYC:

"The Good Fight", "The Other Two" and "Station Eleven" in all categories, Sarah Lancashire ("Julia"), William Jackson Harper ("Love Life") and Luke Kirby ("The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel")

Am I being completely delusion in this or could Ali actually happen here? Yes, he was Swan Song’s only mention so clearly he was one of the three jury saves but if he got saved once, what’s to stop it from happening again, especially considering his performance in the film the type of friendly and receptive that a jury like this responds.

I think so. There’s a “first leading role” narrative and Ali is essentially the male Olivia Colman. He will get awards buzz for anything he does + He’s terrific on the film

Ali has a chance but C’mon C’mon showed up in several categories, so there’s enough love for that film that Phoenix could be saved. There’s also Riz.

Ali can happen. It is a competitive field though and each of the people he’s competing against are more overlooked performers with performances just as strong and baity as his so I am not currently predicting him. This is the same issue I have with Joaquin Phoenix.

It’s a snub for sure. BAFTA loves their young actors. Remember Jamie Bell won here. And Cooper Hoffman made it. But it means nothing for Balfe.

Why would a child missing in Lead mean bad things for those in Supporting?

I was unaware Jude Hill missed the Best Actor longlist despite Belfast showing a decent showing in the longlists. Even Cooper Hoffman made it in who is practically a child.

Are the longlists usually this commercial? Do you think we could see a more conventional/expected list of nominees rather than No Time to Die or whatever winning everything?
