Will Smith probably will be saved by jury because he is black, same as Denzel, besides King Richard had a decent run in these longlists. But I agree it’s between Cumberbach and Garfield in here.

Racism ladies and gentlemen. Alive and well in 2022.

I cannot WAIT for Will for sweep all of these awards so that the white supremacists on these boards can lose their collective minds. Its going to be hilarious.

If you check my posts, I actually predicted King Richard and Will Smith to take the Golden Globe, you simply cannot post anything in your mind without second-guessing, that’s why I mostly avoided actor discussion this year.

I think we can agree that it was expected for just Makeup and Actress. The Screenplay nomination is straight up overperformance.

It got long-listed in the following categories:

– Leading Actress
– Supporting Actor
– Adapted Screenplay
– Costumes Design
– Hair and Makeup

I’ll give you supporting actor because Garfield wasn’t a guarantee but it was always a contender to get long-listed in leading actress and hair and makeup as well as adapted screenplay and costumes design because those categories were barren (and it had period set costumes design).

It’s inaccurate to say it had an “overperformance” when it performed within the range we all expected it to perform. I mean it’s not like it sound got long-listed in best film like The French Dispatch or original score like Being the Ricardos did.

FYC:

"The Good Fight" and "The Other Two" in all categories.

I just watched The Tragedy of Macbeth and will happily eat my words about Americans and Shakespeare. I thought it was stunning and absolutely spectacular. I loved every minute and think it will be right up BAFTA’s proverbial alley. I hope it gets nominated in every category it has deservedly been longlisted for: best film, director, adapted screenplay, actor, actress, SUPPORTING ACTRESS (Kathryn Hunter really did that), cinematography and production design, and it should have got another two in supporting actor in Bertie Carvel and Alex Hassell. Every single BAFTA member will have been involved in a Shakespeare production at some point in their lives. I think they will eat this up.

Black and white is used a lot but this was on another level. Masterful.

“Things bad begun make strong themselves by ill.” – couldn’t be timlier.

Credit also to Moses Ingram and Brendan Gleeson who were also standouts and as always ” that’s Stephen Root!”

Bill Hader and Barry in everything (2 babka)
The Great - Elle Fanning, Nicholas Hoult and comedy writing and directing

Severance in drama series, writing, Adam Scott for best actor, Ben Stiller for drama directing, and the whole cast in supporting.

Garfield isn’t missing. Even if he isn’t somehow top 2 the jury will save him. That Tammy Faye nom wasn’t a coattail with Chastain

And that kind of comment is gonna get you BEATEN up. Will Smith & Denzel Washington both have talent and were pretty good in their films. Watch your mouth!

Why do people like you keep twisting my words? My intention of that post was in response to someone not including Smith in their actor prediction, if Smith doesn’t make top 2 he will be saved by jury not only because of his performance, but also because the purpose of the jury is to guarantee racial diversity in the nomination list.

Kind of funny, I was reasoning for Smith, not against him, and have people call me racist.

You need to RE-WORD your post. I did take your post very offensively!

Garfield’s Tammy Faye inclusion was a Spider-Man coattail more than anything. No one in Hollywood has more hype and goodwill right now than Garfield. He’s the man of the moment and he’s been everywhere promoting himself in the last couple of months.

He’s a British actor and BAFTA winner. He’s not Cumberbatch level with them, but he doesn’t need Spiderman to have goodwill.

Denzel will be the real test of the jury. He’s NEVER received a BAFTA nomination, which is both mind-boggling and telling of the general membership. If he can’t get in for playing Macbeth as well-received as he’s been, then the extent of the jury system was meaningless. He’ll have to rely on the jury in the end, since I don’t see him being top 2. I think that’s Cumberbatch, and ironically, Smith.

I’m genuinely curious: why do you think Smith will be no. 2 and not Garfield?

I suppose it makes sense if you think Smith is clearly out front for the Oscar
