Ashley Judd would’ve been a great choice. Ugh a missed opportunity.

Btw I agree with Frances, she was too fucking old to play Mildred. This role should have been played by an actress in her early or mid forties not in her late fifties.

Can’t we just be glad that there are still lead roles for older women?

Does this hurt Get Outs chances at BP?

It’s chances have been over for weeks.

To be fair, Moonlight also won nothing at the Bafta Awards. Then again, it still had a Bafta Picture nomination, unlike Get Out. It still had Globe nominations for Director and Screenplay, unlike Get Out. It still had an Oscar nomination for Film Editing, unlike Get Out. It still won something at SAG, unlike Get Out. Predicting the Peele film for Picture feels like such a pundit bubble prediction by this point it isn’t even funny anymore.

Thank god The Handmaiden won. My favorite film of all time has been finally honored.

I’m sad for “Apes”. I hope Academy will finally honor the trilogy, but losing BAFTA is not a good sign for Apes…

One of my favorites as well.  At least Bafta did one thing right.

Looks like a best pic toss up in two weeks between Billboards vs Water.

    Everything else looks predictable.

The Dunkirk girls really tried it with these last minute prayer circle antics. I guess it maxes out at 2 Oscars. I guess 3B is back on the board since it won a similar voting style, but oh the stink pieces a comin’. Original screenplay is still Get Out’s. Cool that the acting winners sweep the big ones. I’m not in the awards game for surprises. Y’all should know better, but whatever. Final stretch!

Exactly. People seem to “forget” that Moonlight won the Globe (Drama), beat out both LLL and MBTS at the WGA awards, nominated for the BAFTA Best Picture, AND was nominated for directing, writing, and editing.

The problem with LLL was the fact that the actors branch wasn’t really high on the film. If they were, they would have nominated Stone and Gosling for Best Ensemble.

It definitely looks like consensus is forming, so pretty much any Oscar wins that deviate will be upsets. The wins for Blade Runner 2049 in visual effects and Baby Driver in editing give me hope of some excitement in 2 weeks, but it’s looking like more and more like we won’t have any wins that will look even somewhat surprising. Specific to this ceremony, I thought that Lumley did a great job (I kinda love that she stayed right on stage the whole evening) and am glad that the broadcast shifted to reaction shots for winners in the acting categories.
