No one can replace Elvis. As a MASSIVE Elvis fan I had my concerns. And unfortunately the movie didn’t put them all to bed. It’s not a bad movie but would have liked to see not as many liberties taken. I’m a big Tom Hanks fan as well and thought he was good. Austin Butler who played Elvis was also very good. That said though I wish they had used Elvis’ singing voice in the whole movie instead of just part of it. I will say my favorite part was at the end when they used footage of the actual Elvis. I love Elvis, he’s the reason I’ve been to Graceland 15 times. I still enjoyed the movie and likely own it when it come available.June 26, 2022 at 11:46 am #1204996841
13.5m Friday. Should end the weekend at #1 with 30m-35m.
It’s going to open on #2 after Top Gun Maverick. Both are having estimates of $30.5M but Maverick usually goes up $2M when actuals come. Most box office sites are predicting TGM is going to win the weekend.June 27, 2022 at 5:13 am #1204997261
Darling, just got back from seeing Elvis. overlong, messy, but somewhat entertaining.
Austin Prestley is so hot in the picture, He could destroy me any time. Ehm… Butler is a star in the making, a perfect Elvis, and the commitment are top-notch without any distracting transformations going on (I’m looking at you, Malek’s false teeth and Oldman’s 100 tons botox).
Structurally, this movie is one giant mess, Baz Luhrman’s energetic style leaves zero chance for the audiences to grasp their emotions, everything are in fast pace, there’s a lot of editing and it seems like the director and his editor are having an allergic reaction if the shots lasted more than one seconds. The sets and costumes feels like they only using them for 5 minutes then forgotten and flew to another sets.
The biggest issue I had with the picture is Tom Hanks portrayal as Tom Parker. Hanks should win a Razzie for this hilariously cartoonish, botox performance. Everything just feels wrong about the portrayal, right from the accent, the mannerisms and some goofy acting choices.
That scene where Elvis got out from the elevator, finding Parker sitting in the dark a la villain-reveal is pure comedy gold, I cracked with laughter witnessing that hilarious acting and directing atrocity.June 27, 2022 at 6:31 am #1204997310
1. I didn’t mind what Hanks was doing. He’s great. Didn’t like that he’s the narrator though.
2. Hate the editing.
3. Austin Butler is fire. Makeup dept is fire. Costumes are cool.
4. That Doja song took me out of the moment.
5. Sucker for that ending. RIP king.
I just love movies. And awards.June 27, 2022 at 8:49 am #1204997417
Top Gun being adjusted down is a surprise and the first time it happens in 5 weeks.June 27, 2022 at 10:21 am #1204997546
I think Elvis will do well in costume design, production design, and make-up. Austin Butler could go either way.

“Elvis” was better than expected. Austin Butler was phenomenal as Elvis Presley: such a committed performance. He should win many awards for this! He was very moving and heartbreaking in the final part. He seems such a sweet kid, but he manages to show us cocky Elvis with fits of rage in the last few years, as well as the insecure teenager who has stage fright before his first show. He had the impossible task to portray one the sexiest men of the 20th century, plus one the best entertainers with one of the most beautiful voices and he nailed it, without reverting to parody (no lip curl was an interesting choice)…
Tom Hanks was like an annoying fly that you want to push away for the entire movie and maybe that’s intentional. His lines were so cheesy, LOL! When he keeps going on about the Christmas sweater, oh my god! The music is really really good, very immersive, but sometimes I was confused by the many versions of the songs (also perhaps intentional if you know music from that period it was all different versions of the same songs). I wasn’t a fan of the editing, but okay, that’s Baz Luhrmann, you can’t tame him (like you can’t with Elvis, LOL, they’re a perfect match).
Finally, I wasn’t bothered by the things they omitted, because I think that there have been so many sensationalist details about Elvis’s excesses and wacko behaviors of his last few years, as well as judging his relationship with Priscilla that we needed to be reminded of the power of his music. Baz Luhrmann put that at the center of his movie. I hope Elvis Presley will get a few more young fans thanks to this movie.June 28, 2022 at 7:28 pm #1204999008
Okay I can’t fully tell you why but the ending of the film made me cry. I mean I’ve cried over Elvis before (I’m pretty sure I’ve cried at least once in the 15 times I’ve been to Graceland). The movie is good for what it is. But I love ELVIS PRESLEY and this movie helps me fall in love with him more!June 29, 2022 at 1:59 am #1204999146

When they showed real footage of Elvis singing “Unchained Melody” at the end I was unprepared and I started to cry like a baby. He was hurting so much at the end. RIP Elvis ❤️June 29, 2022 at 10:23 am #1204999426
How do you rank these three: Moulin Rouge, Great Gatsby, and Elvis?

I can’t wait to see film Twitter collectively meltdown when…
1. Amsterdam gets nominated for Picture and Director.
2. Tom Hanks gets nominated for Best Supporting Actor.
It will be beautiful.June 29, 2022 at 6:58 pm #1205000056
And yes. Tom Hanks will gladly rock up to collect his Razzie the day after attending the Oscars as a nominee. So that film Twitter will feel better. After all, he’s a nice guy (when you don’t trip his wife). LolNot now
