Vice trailer drops tomorrow. Expect Christian Bale buzz to go back up. The ‘experts’ on this site are so wildly off on predictions for Best Actor. Only the top users/members seem to have realistic lineups.

    What happened to this

good question. mckay said the 24th *shrug* dunno

I think it’s more likely he’ll be nominated for Best Actor and Best Director, but win only Best Actor (unless Bale proves to be a revelation). Beatty won only Best Director for Reds.

as of 9/25, it looks like it’s Bale, Cooper, Gosling, Redford, Dafoe with Viggo trailing close behind.

Malek’s performance in Bohemian Rhapsody won’t be assessed until October 24th (embargo lifts for reviews day of release in UK). The earliest we’ll see Bale’s performance will be between November 8-12th, during the AFI Festival where they have a showcase slot.

Everybody else on the list has been seen and reviewed a lot. I get a feeling it’ll come down to Cooper vs Bale, but it’s too early to tell.

What an uninspiring and – sorry – boring line-up. Can I have John Cho for Searching, please?

You…aren’t serious, right? There’s no way he’s getting a nom. Though I’m pretty sure (hopefully?) you realize that.

I agree this list makes the most sense so far. Though it feels like Redford and Dafoe could be facing off for the final slot, eventually.

No need to get so sarcastic. This poster was obviously expressing their personal preference.

I haven’t seen the film yet so I don’t know how great he is but I think it’s kind of too bad that, at least at this point, Lucas Hedges’ chances of a nomination for Boy Erased seems to be dwindling. ‘Cause if it happens, he’d only be the third openly LGBTQ actor nominated for an LGBTQ role.

I was thinking more of Beatty for Heaven Can Wait in 1978, seeing as that was his directorial debut just like Cooper this year. Same as Reds three years later, Beatty was nominated for producing, directing, writing and starring in Heaven Can Wait, but this time he lost all four categories. It’s possible that Cooper could go the same way, but it’s too early to tell.

Lucas Hedges is gay? I really thought he was straight and that he would come out years later in his career.

    He’s queer.

He said he’s not totally straight or gay.

    Yeah. That’s why I added the Q.

    https://www.indiewire.com/2018/09/lucas-hedges-sexuality-boy-erased-comes-out-gay-bisexual-1202000712/

While I don’t think he’s lying or anything, I supposed he had to come out to protect Boy Erased from the “only LGBTQ filmmakers/actors should tell/play LGBTQ stories/characters” criticisms. Chloe Moretz, star of the other gay conversion drama, has took a swipe at this and has since backtracked after Lucas came out.
