I can’t wait ti see Driver stans continue to bitch and whine that Joker’s a terrible film as it sweep every actor award from this point. And becomes one of the most nominated films at the Academy Awards, including a nomination for Picture and Screenplay. The salt will be so delicious.

    For Your Consideration

    Best Picture: Parasite
    Best Director: Bong-Joon Ho,
    Best Actor: Joaquin Phoenix
    Best Actress: Scarlett Johansson
    Supporting Actor: Al Pacino
    Supporting Actress: Laura Dern
    Adapted Screenplay: Jojo Rabbit
    Original Screenplay: Parasite

This race was over since a year ago when the first stills for Joker were out. Phoenix was and is fully sweeping. Don’t expect another outcome from this season.

How is Phoenix sweeping when he’s only won one critics award so far while Driver has won four, Banderas two (since all contenders have been released), and Sandler one?

Not quite a sweep he’s got going there.

He’s obviously talking about the televised awards which start with the Globes next year

Darling, as much as I hated Joke, Animatronic didn’t even have a single critics award win and he still swept with a Razzie-worthy performance. Joke is fully sweeping, dear citizens.

Umm but Joker is a terrible movie with a truly awful performance. And I’m far from being Driver’s stan.

You’re in very small minority buddy, Joker and it’s leading performance were very much loved everywhere around the world.

    But I guess stay pressed.

Joaquin can win even without campaigning at all. That’s how strong is support for his performance.

So fucking childish I swear. Anyway, Phoenix will win. He’s one of my favorite actors so i’m fine with it. But frankly I’m not gonna fight with his stans all season so i’ll leave it at that

I couldn’t find the comment where someone said they wouldn’t predict Banderas in actor until he got a globe nomination. Maybe it was deleted, but thanks to HFPA you may predict. Driver v. Phoenix is gonna cut it down the middle clearing the way for Antonio to be holding that statue come February.

That might have been me. I made a mistake underestimating Banderas. I thought Sandler would benefit the most from the critics awards. I think he’ll be nominated now.

I’ve been following these threads all along and it’s been about Phoenix is going to sweep, Phoenix is going to do this, do that… but the thing is, he’s not meeting any goal posts that have been set by his stans. NO ACTOR is right now. Not Phoenix, not Driver, not DeNiro (he couldn’t even get a GG nom), not DiCaprio.

So these bold pronouncements that Phoenix is going to sweep. Puhleeze. No, he’s not. Driver is going to win the Oscar. No, he’s not. Banderas is going to win the BAFTA. No, he’s not.  Or maybe yes to all of the above. No one knows at this point because what was considered a lock is just NOT anymore. This time last week, Driver, Phoenix and DeNiro were pretty much “locked in” as three Oscar nominees for best actor. However, without getting a GG nom, how safe is DeNiro now with SUCH a strong, crowded field?

You’ve got Pryce, Banderas, DiCaprio, Murphy, Sandler all jockeying for spots… and yes, the almost-guaranteed locks, Driver and Phoenix. So, my point is… anyone coming in here saying:

    • – “Phoenix is going to sweep.”
    • – “Driver is going to sweep.”
    • – “Driver is going to win the Oscar.”
    • – “Banderas is going to win the Oscar.”
    • – “Phoenix is going to win the Oscar.”

… definitively must have some helluva crystal ball.

While I preferred Driver, I’m certainly prepared for the possibility of a Phoenix sweep, and I wouldn’t mind it either, since Phoenix has been so consistently great for so many years.

If anything, I’m more concerned now about the possibility of a DeNiro miss, which I think would be completely criminal. But in terms of predictions, I’m now inclined to think:

    1. Phoenix

    2. Driver

    3. DiCaprio

    4. Banderas

    5. DeNiro

    and for a spoiler

    6. Pryce

    The Little Noses

Weren’t you saying that the HFPA didn’t like The Joker?

It got Picture, Director, Actor and Score nominations. Imagine if they actually liked it

Darlings, Shouty DiCaprio IS NOT ahead of Banderas. I have to laugh.
