I don’t think it’s necessarily true that SAG always goes for the baitier performance over veteran status. Ruby Dee won over considerably baitier performances for being in American Gangster for about 5 min almost wholly due to her name, you could say the same about Michael Caine and Judi Dench. I think there’s a precedent for De Niro to win regardless of the showiness of his performance

Robert Pattison deserves a nomination for The Lighthouse and delivered one of the best performances of the year. That is all.

    For Your Consideration:

Best Picture: Weathering With You, Parasite, The Lighthouse
Best Supporting Actor: Willem Dafoe - The Lighthouse
Best Animated Feature: Weathering With You, Promare
Best International Film: Weathering With You, Parasite

Supporting Actress was a mess that year. Cate Blanchett won Globe and Tilda Swinton won BAFTA and eventually became the winner since she was a part of a stronger film. The same goes for Judi Dench winning for Chocolat and Michael Caine for The Cider House Rules. Unless Best Actor becomes a mess, I don’t see Robert De Niro competing to win over Driver and Phoenix.

Y’all better pray we are not gonna have a shit storm coming up. With every contender in this category living up to or exceeding expectations unlike best actress, we’re gonna have a lot of headache in 4 months to come.

I think that the precursors could be messy for this category. There are so many valid narratives/performances that it’s hard for me to imagine a sweep

Everyone thought the same about the year McDormand won. I really hope this race doesn’t go that way.

De Niro is a horrible person. I know performance should be kept separate from personal life but damn do I wish for Pryce to get nominated instead.

Phoenix is NOT getting nominated for the Oscar, it’ll be Jake Gyllenhaal Night Crawler all over again.

You were just saying he was going to win like, yesterday

He’s probably flopping after what’s happened.

I am sorry but don’t you think this case appeared on suspicious times.

At the times De Niro delivered 2 good performances in 2 big movies e.g Joker and The Irishman and he was in news and he said “Fuck Em” to Trump.

    I don’t believe this story,timing ain’t right.Bobby D is getting in.

Joaquin isn’t going anywhere. He’s winning the Golden Globe at least. I know y’all want him to flop in the end like Close so the person you’re creaming your pants for wins instead, but this time around the frontrunner will actually have the better performance.

De Niro’s got so many nominations already. Why not give Pryce his due?

And yet “politics” has nothing to do with this isolated process…
