De Niro is a horrible person. I know performance should be kept separate from personal life but damn do I wish for Pryce to get nominated instead.

Acting talents has zero connection to actors’ personality. Also both of them could get nominated.

I think he said just that in his post, Captain Obvious.

Do you think all three could get nominated (Driver, Pryce and De Niro)?

-Joaquin Phoenix -Adam Driver -Robert De Niro -Jonathan Pryce -Antonio Banderas Screenshot my prophecy.

No Leo. That’s bold choice, but not as bold as it would have been 3 months ago. He does seem a lot more vulnerable now.

I feel like even with all the other strong contenders this is still a two-horse race between Driver and Phoenix, so I doubt anyone else wins any precursors (except for the comedy awards).

I’m starting to think Eddie Murphy might be a stronger candidate for Lead Actor than I initially thought. Phoenix (who I thought was the frontrunner until I actually saw Joker last night) will be lucky to be nominated. His film really disservices him despite his great performance. Adam Driver is still pretty young, but if his performance deserves it, he could win. DeNiro could be hurt by scandal.

Murphy’s got a comeback narrative working for him. His film scored great reviews (as did he), it’s a biopic (which Oscar loves) and voters would have an opportunity to award a Hollywood legend for what he does best: comedy. With this being on Netflix voters will watch it.

    We’ll see.

My reaction to Joker I wasn’t expecting. I couldn’t take my eyes off Joaquin, who’s been great since To Die For imo.
The film itself I’m still processing.

If he wins the comedy globe, he will be nominated for a oscar.

This is definitely the most competitive acting category. Personally, I see eight possible nominees, and leaving three out is almost impossible. No one is safe, not even Driver and especially not Phoenix.

    1. De Niro

    2. Driver

    3. DiCaprio

    4. Pryce

    5. Banderas

    6. Phoenix

    7. Bale

    8. Murphy

The triple Netflix nominees has me worrying.

OK, I’ve just watch “Joker” at cinema in Madrid and… Joaquin Phoenix has the inscription of his name engraved on his Oscar already. There’s no way, NO WAY to lose for him.

In my personal taste his performance is at the same level of DiCaprio in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” (even though both characters are so blatantly different), but DiCaprio has already an Oscar and Phoenix not so… 1+1=2.

And “Joker” has been the best film I’ve seen in this 2019. Of course it’s incomparable to Nolan’s Batman trilogy, but the topics that attend the films are very different. It’s like comparing a red wine with a coke.

The Joker is a superlative role for a superlative actor, and Phoenix delivered it.

Yeh, Leo is vulnerable, this performance will NOT stand the test of time. OUATIH failed to be culturally relevant, the movie will be forgotten by February 2020, if it’s not already the case.

    As for now :

    • A. Banderas : Veteran actor with huge box office hits and basically zero awards record on his slate.
    • J. Pryce : Veteran actor, just that. I thought he should have been nominated for The Wife, They will probably give him a nod for this this year.
    • A. Driver : a bit old to be called an ingenue but he’s kinda ingenue. His profile rose significantly since 2013 and he managed to become a critically acclaimed actor, respected in the industry.
    • R. DeNiro : Legendary actor giving a deja vu performance.
    • L. DiCaprio : A-lister and all time favorite giving a more or less interesting performance.
    • J. Phoenix : unconventional actor tremendously talented giving an unconventional performance.

I have to disagree,OUATIH wasn’t for everyone. For some it was boring self indulgent crap and for some it was beautiful a day in life of outdated people and story about friendship and much more.

I think Tarantino achieved exactly what he wanted from OUATIH as per his dozens of interviews.

OUATIH is a total winner, all critically and commercially and the fact it’s a “Hollywood Hand-Job” doesn’t hurt.

I don’t see this movie being forgotten,it will re-release theatrically in US near award season so there’s that.

It will earn dozens of nominations and maybe it will be this year’s highest grossing BP nominee if Joker doesn’t make it.Who knows,it may even win BP and BD,it has all the characteristics to

Joker made in a few hours what Marriage Story wishes to ever make. Phoenix will win it.

If Box Office is all that matters then Endgame winning Best Picture is on lock, Russo Brothers winning Director is on lock and Poor Driver and Phoenix cause Robert Downey Jr is totally winning.

I find it hard to believe Pheonix loses this too. Nevertheless, I won’t discount the posibility of a Driver upset, and I definetely won’t trash Driver or Marriage Story or his fans.
