If Phoenix wins both the SAG and the Globe he will win the Oscar too. Those precursors have a 90% accuracy rate this decade.

I don’t believe in them anymore

    J. Phoenix is winning Globe and SAG but he’s losing BAFTA and Critics Choice. Oh and the Oscar too. It will be an unforgettable upset. Industry is not willing to reward him for this movie. Don’t get too comfortable after his couple precursor wins. I guess you could say he’s getting Close’d.

Whoever wins the Globe will win critic’s choice.

Which globe? Because the drama globe winner lost the critics choice twice in the last 5 years.

Anyone who gives us this atrocity should be nowhere near the word hot.

I meant Drama, but good point. However I still think the Drama winner will take critics choice this year. The two frontrunners are in Drama (I don’t think they’re putting Marriage Story into comedy), and Critics Choice likes to reward the frontrunner. The two times you mentioned were also different circumstances.

Michael Keaton was both the frontrunner and the critical favorite. His Globe win initially seemed like the beginning of his predicted sweeping of the top awards. Unfortunately, it wasn’t (I like Eddie Redmayne, but he won because of his role).

Christian Bale taking it is an interesting situation. Most people thought Bradley Cooper was winning the Oscar, but then Rami Malek beat him at the Globes seemingly out of nowhere. Malek’s win was such a surprise that some people thought it was just a fluke and didn’t believe he was actually the frontrunner. Meanwhile, Bale was already being predicted by many people to win the Oscar even before his Globe win. He wasn’t the frontrunner, but he was probably the second most predicted actor in that year’s race. The fact that Bale won the Globe in his category and Cooper didn’t made some people believe that Bale was the new frontrunner. Not only had Bale’s main competitor lost what was initially seen as an easy win, but it was to someone who most people weren’t taking seriously as a potential winner at that time. In addition to that, Bale’s win also showed that he had more support than another contender who some people thought could beat Cooper; Viggo Mortensen. Bale beating Viggo was especially noticeable, since the Globes had embraced Green Book that night, and yet they gave the leading win to someone else. So after the Globes, Cooper and Mortensen’s chances were weakened, people weren’t sure what to think of Malek, and Bale looked stronger than ever. Many of the Critics Choice voters who wanted to predict that year’s Oscars likely thought Bale was the new frontrunner, thus giving him their support.

Moving back to this year, of the actors eligible on the Comedy side, Jonathon Pryce is seen as the most likely to get in at the Oscars (unless if Once Upon a Time in Hollywood goes comedy, as it should), but even then, Pryce has nowhere near as many people predicting him to win as Phoenix and Driver do. So I still believe that whoever wins Drama will win Critics Choice.

Bale had Oscar if it weren’t for Vice bombing so hard at box office.

Joker breaking october records all over the place. Largest October Tuesday ever. So much for mixed word of mouth.

I’m surprised by it’s lasting power. Definitely NOT a film for mom dad and the kids. Must be doing repeat business.
The demographic in my viewing audience had at least half over the age of 40. And lots of women.

    I knew it.

9/10 at Imdb,93% at RT audience score and 9.3 on Metacritic audience score.

General audience loved this movie and it will have legs,it’s going to be hugely profitable affair for WB.

It looks like it’s a crossover hit as well.
I admit to being happily surprised.

Phoenix in the Joker was amazing. Like really amazing.

He took me on a rollercoaster of emotions and it’s IMO easily the winner as of now.

I would also give a shout out to Conroy, who may not have had much screentime but she was marvelous as well.

It’s not only amazing, it’s the best performance of the decade.

All I have are negative thoughts
