If you think Joker was a weak movie and Joaquin Phoenix was just “good”, I definitely believe you haven’t seen the same film as I did. The movie was one of the best movies of the decade and that’s thanks to Joaquin’s oustanding and masterful performance. It was like the best acting performance I’ve seen this decade and it’s not even close.

All I have are negative thoughts

I think you might need to catch up on watching a lot more films if you think Joker is one of the best of this decade lol

Eh, imo Joaquin has done so much better with some of his other films. Also, it just would suck if this was his winning moment because I’d rather see him win with a film that’s actually good.

JOKER has some flaws and it’s not one of the best movies of the decade. It’s good, very good at times mostly because of Phoenix outstanding performance. Cinematography and score are also pretty great. It needed better writing and a more assured direction in order to qualify for “one of the best of the decade”, but it had all the potential. Need to watch MARRIAGE STORY in order to see the Driver’s magic, but I would be 100% OKAY with Phoenix winning the Oscar. Amazing performance

TBH Kang-ho Song deserves a nomination in this category for Parasite. If he can Yalitza Aparicio his way into the conversation, I will be so happy. The film has a lot of great performances, but as a lead contender he stands out due to having to sell a lot of the third act.

There’s no room in any of the male acting categories for a surprise upset like that, those categories are way too stacked. I wonder if one of the Parasite actresses could get nominated though. Those categories are super empty.

    Academy-Award winners:

Parasite: Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay

Joker: Best Actor - Joaquin Phoenix

    Jojo Rabbit: Best Adapted Screenplay

Look, for those who say I should watch more movies I’d like to tell them I’ve seen more than 1,000 movies from this decade (and yes, I should watch even more) and yes, definitely Joker was amongst the best ones. In my opinion, Phillips’ direction and the script were pretty amazing (even though I wasn’t a fan of the flashbacks). And YES, Phoenix’s performance is OUTSTANDING and MASTERFUL and, IN MY OPINION, it’s probably the best acting performance I’ve seen from movies from this decade. I really hate when some users here bahave like children trying to ridicule people who think different than them. We should be allowed to like everything and discussing our different opinions because, in my opinion, that’s (or should be) the beauty of this forum, not bashing and ridiculing others.

So, in my opinion, Joaquin would be one of the most deserving acting winner (if not the most deserved) of the decade.

Little angels, stans are really really annoying. Pattinson better wins.

Haven’t seen Joker (still not buying all the hype sorry guys) but it’s stuff like this that will hinder his chances and I assume the movie’s as well in BP and across the board. Just saying don’t be surprised if it’s not well received by the Oscars or if he doesn’t win.

What are you talking about? Any press is good press. Warner Bros. and Joaquin are probably reveling in this free publicity.

Still haven’t seen Joker, but a friend described it to me as a forced rip-off The King of Comedy with a dash of Taxi Driver. Is this a fair summary?

    FYC:

Antonio Banderas and Asier Etxeandia, Dolor y Gloria (Best Actor/Supporting Actor)
Emily Beecham, Little Joe (Best Actress)
Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren, The Good Liar (Best Actor/Actress)
