Lol Joker stans are acting just like the ASIB/Gaga stans who were way too confident in the chances of the film only to be disappointed and oh so wrong in the end. Joaquin is not a lock for any type of win and that’s the problem with you overhyped ass stans (I’m sure the incels from the pits of YouTube comments, IMDB, and Reddit will make multiple accounts and spread like parasites here).

I’ll say this; Adam Driver and Antonio Banderas will be the critical favorites, not Joaquin Phoenix. Driver in particular will have a backing unlike Bradley Cooper last year.

Don’t be agressive girl. We all want the best for Marriage Story. Not saying it will go empty-handed at Drama like ASIB. It’s just it will face a lot more risks considering how Drama is so stacked this year! And don’t make such concrete claim when nothing has been set in stone yet. At this moment Joaquin is far from a lock to win, but so is Driver! Even after MS is widely released, nothing is still certain until precursors kick in!

That’s a horrible comparison. If we learned anything from last year it actually means a third contender that has little to no hype will end up upsetting the frontrunners.

Yeah, it’s not like Rami Malek had any type of hype before the race whatsoever..????

Lol this revisionist history to fit narratives and agendas that DONT WORK.

Considering the numbers and the audience reaction thus far, if anything this will be the highest grossing R rated film. Wouldn’t be surprised it crosses the $800 million mark.

Box Office Mojo is predicting Joker to gross around $85 million for its opening weekend. That’s slightly behind current R-rated champ Deadpool 2, which opened with a $125 million opening weekend and went on to gross $785 million worldwide. Even if it doesn’t beat Deadpool 2, Joker will probably pull in impressive numbers for an R-rated film.

That’s not slightly behind. Nearly a 40 million difference is big. Also, Deadpool is the current champ with a 132 million opening weekend.

Joker is doing great though. It is already breaking box office records for an October release. That’s good news for the film after these past controversial weeks.

Not to mention, it will have no box office competitor in the next two weeks (Mistress of evil can break its October box office champ though). The movie has been hyped like heck in Vietnam and there’s a media frenzy in Vietnam regarding Joker is nearly banned for its depiction of violence and toxic ideology. I’d say whoever ran the movie’s promotion campaign and decided the release date should be awarded an Oscar!

I should have clarified. I Googled what movie was the worldwide highest grossing R-rated film because I was intrigued by José’s comment about Joker possibly beating that record. I didn’t realize that Deadpool had a bigger opening weekend than Deadpool 2. And now that I’m looking at it, I’m amazed at how close Deadpool ($783 million) and Deadpool 2’s ($785 million) total worldwide grosses were. That’s insane.

I do think Joker’s darker themes limits its potential worldwide gross more than the Deadpool films, which are just pure fun. I haven’t seen Joker yet though, so I’m just going by what the ad campaign is telling me.

Buddies, Joaquin Phoenix’s performance is really great. If he loses the Oscar, I don’t know what’s Oscar-worthy then.

Joaquin Phoenix is winning this, mark my words. I can bet anything into it. There is no contest AT ALL. The performance is completely memorable, imperishable and insurmountable. The best male or female performance of the year (in comparision Zellweger’s “Judy” feels really short. Now there in Best Actress I can see a race. The Best Actor one is over) and best performance of years (only Frances McDormand in “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing” can make a rivalry).

Joaquin Phoenix win will be IMO the best win in that category since years 2012-2014 with the wins of McConaughey and Day-Lewis for “Dallas Buyers Club” and “Lincoln”.

I really think everyone considering Phoenix the undeniable frontrunner is mistaken. Best performance does not guarantee an Oscar

Yeah, tell that to Glenn Close over Olivia Colman. The overdue narrative prevailed over the best performance… right? We are not in the “Shakespeare in Love” times aymore, usually the best performance wins. But if we are talking about the overdue narrative: who’s more overdue? future 4 times nominee Joaquin Phoenix, Golden Globe and Grammy winner or future 2 times nominee Adam Driver?

I just saw Joker. I can’t imagine a better performance this year. I don’t doubt Adam Driver is going to be great in Marriage Story, but Phoenix’s performance seems untouchable. As an acting teacher, I’d say it’s probably one of the best acting works I’ve seen this decade.

    Acting teacher.

I had to do it. Conroy being in this is a coincidence.

Joaquin Phoenix’s performance in “Joker” is best lead acting performance,I have seen since Casey Affleck’s perfect turn as Lee in “Manchester By The Sea”.

    Kubrick-Tarkovsky-Scorsese-Bergman-Bresson-Kurosawa
