    Roman Griffin Davis- JoJo Rabbit

    ????

Curious to know why you think he’ll make it in over Banderas and De Niro.

I’m looking forward to seeing your predictions fail so we can go from seeing smug Cersei gifs to sad Cersei gifs.

Hopefully buried under a pile of rubble.

Darlings, CGI De Niro will have to be outstanding in order to be recognized for the performance he’s been giving his whole career.

I know many don’t think he can get into this strong category, but I think Taron Egerton still has a chance to happen for Rocketman.

Among the cons there are, of course, the strength of the category and the many raved performances in the conversation, but I also believe there are plenty of pros for Egerton:
Massive campaign: The studio spends a lot of money and time promoting Egerton’s work, and I have a feeling it’s not just because of the Golden Globe voters. Not to mention that Elton John is involved throughout the promotion and gives live concerts after the screenings. That’s cool enough.
Raved performance, iconic role, box office success: It is indisputable that, besides being big on the campaign, Egerton’s role is iconic, his performance is critically acclaimed and his film is a box office success. What I mean here is that there is actual content behind the campaign, something the studio can be really proud of.
Bohemian Rhapsody: On one hand, of course, Rocketman is not so comparable, since Bohemian Rhapsody was just a bigger Oscar player and the passion was much clearer (both towards the movie and Malek), but the recipe is similar. Well-known/well-liked iconic figure, raved central performance, passion, show, and strong campaign (with Elton John who is just one of the most beloved figures of the industry). Even if he doesn’t win, I think the nomination can definitely happen.

I completely agree. I’m not currently predicting Egerton, but I think he’s being horribly underestimated. I really hope he can make it in. He might be my favorite performance of the year so far.

Egerton is like 8th or 9th. Will he even get a main BFCA nom? He wont have more passion than Banderas. His film wasnt as successful at box office as Once. True they do have a massive campaign but he needs it as a newcomer in a summer release. And then you have the Netflix vets in Murphy and Pryce. He has to jump quite a few people.

Possibly not, but maybe it doesn’t matter, because he’ll be among the Comedy Actor  nominees. What I think matters is SAG and BAFTA. Those mentions can generate enough buzz for an Oscar nomination.

I’m not that high on Banderas’s chances. I don’t see him campaigning much, and I think there can be passion behind Egerton as well.

I can’t make up my mind about Egerton. There’s passion for his perf and he was very good.
And then I wonder if voters want something different this year.
Also I saw this in May, and they often have such short attention spans.
What should I do Piper? lol

Taron Egerton would be a deserving nominee. He really needs campaigning in order to remind voters that he gave a wonderful performance on a film that was released a few months ago. I would be more confident to predict him if he gets the pre-cursor nods (even though getting those doesn’t exactly guarantee an Oscar nod).

Joker is on $740 million worldwide after 3 weekends.I can see it barely making $1 Billion.

Joaquin’s gonna have a huge box office support behind his back.

Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe both give terrific lead performances in The Lighthouse but the film becomes wearying after awhile. I don’t expect either of them to make it unless they commit category fraud and Dafoe makes it into the supporting category.

Dafoe is going Supporting and Pattinson is going Lead.

    Fraud is already decided.
