Does anyone think that because Joaquin and Adam will likely be neck-to-neck throughout award season, they could cancel out each other, resulting in a dark horse winner like Pryce?

This year’s Colman will be Antonio Banderas if there is to be.

I don’t see Jonathan Pryce making it in since Adam Driver and Robert De Niro are going to be Netflix’s 2 acting nominees and that’s it.

I think people are really underestimating Pryce and The Two Popes in general.

Sure he will be great in it but Netflix’s 2 major pushes are The Irishman and Marriage Story. These are the movies that have universal acclaim which is something The Two Popes not have currently and might not have in future.

There are only so many Netflix actors that can get in.

I personally feel Driver,Phoenix,De Niro and Banderas are lock for noms and 5th place or the 5th nominee can be anyone from Edgerton,Pryce,Pattinson,Murphy.

Im not convinced Pryce is a lock just yet, but he’s a veteran with renewed visibility and in a Meirelles film. Can’t dismiss his chances.

I have Pryce in my predictions but no, I don’t think he will be a dark horse winner.

Yeah. I mean, Roma was the big push last year, but Buster Scruggs showed up with 4 noms anyway. So it could happen.

I just love movies. And awards.

I mean, it’s not like multi-dildo winners Nicholson and Day-Lewis with Brody as sneak-through winner level of a race. It’ll be one of those 2 no matter what. If Pryce somehow wins BAFTA since the movie is a british production and focuses on European figures (along with a Globe win), then yes he could make an upset case. But that usually is a combo that works with Best Actress not Best Actor. I don’t see anyone else other than Driver or Phoenix winning. And we haven’t even seen Pryce yet. He may barely have any flashy material. And please, I don’t wanna hear again the Close/Gaga vote-split scenario 😂.

Thank you. The fact that some people here are assuming Colman won ’cause Close and Gaga split the vote is ridiculous to say the least. Gaga was dead from the moment she lost the Globe to Close. I’m someone who was rooting really hard for Glenn. Like REALLY HARD!!! But we have to state the facts. Colman won because not only she had the best performance of the line up, but her movie was HUGE with Academy. Basically EVERY branch watched it. While only the acting branch cared for The Wife. This is not Emmys. At Oscars every branch votes for the other branches.

FYC Emmys: Helena Bonham Carter (Drama Supporting Actress), Olivia Colman (Drama Actress), Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh (Drama Actress), Fiona Shaw (Drama Supporting Actress), Zendaya (Drama Actress), Alexis Bledel (Drama Guest Actress)

So that’s why people keep referring to Colman’s win as a split result? I couldn’t figure it out.

    Lol.

I have a feeling Driver is sweeping the critics awards and by the time the televised awards happen, it’ll be tough to stop him.

That’s mostly why she won. Her performance was great, but her movie was extremely liked.

I was hugely disappointed when The Favorite won only one Oscar. In hindsight it makes more sense.

In recent times Colman gave one of the top performances Iv e seen, along with Streep and Blanchett. It’s nice when a win can merge that with all the other factors.

I don’t think that at all. Adam Driver will most likely win the three most important ones (NYFCC, LAFCA and NSFC) like Chalamet. But like Oldman, i could see Phoenix sweep the other ones. And to be honest i wouldn’t pay much attention to the critics. Colman and Collette went big with the critics but Glenn swept the american televised award shows (minus Oscar). Ethan Hawke basically won EVERY critics group and his only nomination at an important precursor was CC. Isabelle Huppert is another example. She swept the critics but still lost the Oscar to someone more popular. Adam Driver has the perfect performance for the critics groups. They love that kind of performances. But the televised shows tend to award performances like the one Phoenix gave. Let’s also not forget that he lost a bunch of weight for the role and that he needed therapy after shooting the movie.

Agree. I still can’t get over the fact The Favourite lost Original Screenplay to that bland and mediocre movie Green Book.
