Uh just a point of clarification…Gaga is winning an Oscar for song. I’m rooting for Glenn Close in much the same way as Freeman is rooting for Rami (who I want too but not quite as much as I’ve rooted for Glenn (watched her my whole life and am thrilled she might actually get it)). I know mynopinion is probably not that popular but I am happy for her and will be moreso if she wins the Oscar. I do agree with you on the supporting Oscar point…

This might be the first year in awhile I actually really like most of the nominations and nominees. I dohave favorites but I’ve seen almost all of the best picture nominees and enjoyed them for different reasons.

I’m actually super happy she’s probably getting Song and think it’s better for her not to win two in the same night and avoid a backlash in her future film career.

And I really like Close’s win aswell. And for this specific film. The Wife really enjoyable to me and on a unpopular opinion I think it’s better than some Best Picture nominees. I’m not bitter about her. She’s great

I am confused. Why this rant? Who is forbidding you to be happy?

I didn’t think what I said was a rant. It was a reaction to the picture of the woman all in black like it was a funeral or terrible that Rami is now in the lead. It’s one thing to be rooting for someone else but it’s the constant maligning that sometimes gets to me.

I am happy that Lady Gaga will co-win Best Song. It’s the same award that Barbra Steisand won for her version of A Star Is Born.

I get that people don’t share my opinion that Rami Malek deserves to win but allow me to be happy about his (likely) winning the Oscar. I have gone through so many years of watching the Oscars and my favorites lose and this is a year where I am very likely to be happy with all of the major winners (a few of the technical awards I will disagree with especially if Vice wins for Film Editing, but otherwise I am fine with all of this year’s most likely winners). For once most of my #1 choices have a strong chance of winning and I get at least this one year to be thrilled with the Oscars!

No one is preventing you from doing anything. But it would be nice if you knew how to read a room. Constantly repeating yourself in promoting a film and performance that the majority here find disgusting and shitty won’t do you any favors. Since you don’t seem to care at all about that, then do you.

I think it should’ve gotten a screenplay nod for sure. I am going to read the book but from what I’ve read and heard they use a similar device of telling the story through Joan’s eyes. I’ve loved The Wife since I saw it. It’s really relevant. I watched many women take back seats to men (not just their husbands). It’s really timely and I’m wondering if it hit too close for those critics.

I not going to defend my opinion, it’s ridiculous that anyone would have to do that. I completely get what Freeman was talking about now. If you didn’t like the performance, then that’s fine, but don’t feel like you have the right to tell me what I get to like and what I don’t get to like.

Ok. What did you think of the film in general?
No disrespect but why wouldn’t you defend your opinion ? Ain’t this point of these threads?

Obviously people can post however they want, but not everyone who posts on a discussion board wants to have a debate or fight or to defend themselves. Some people just want to share their opinion and discuss their opinion without feeling “attacked”. I’m not saying posters attacked Luca but it can come off that way when the first reply he receives is an aggressive one with snark (one that I enjoyed regarding fake teeth and lip syncing). Not everyone is built for a fight.

I think both my answer and Kord Dkt’s were intended as comical. No one wants to fight with Luca, he is too respected on this website lol

Sure, sometimes Freeman sounds like a broken record; but it’s not as if Malek has the worst work in the category, what with Cooper’s ham-fisted joke of a performance also in contention. Are they both poor in their roles? Yes! Is Malek worse than Cooper? Nope.

he’s indeed a broken record. I mean we can’t listen to the same song all day long.
