Well for 2019, I would’ve opted for the following nominees:

    Antonio Banderas, PAIN & GLORY
    Adam Driver, MARRIAGE STORY
Eddie Murphy, DOLEMITE IS MY NAME
    Joaquin Phoenix, JOKER
    Adam Sandler, UNCUT GEMS

Despite how mixed I am on JOKER, I don’t mind Phoenix winning here although he’d get my vote for THE MASTER and would’ve also contended strongly for his snubbed work in HER and YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE.

I feel like I could replace Murphy with Egerton. He was quite good in ROCKETMAN.

I’m not sure who I’d vote for but at the moment I’m leaning towards Banderas.

I don’t understand how someone like Bradley Cooper (who didn’t even make the cut in the top 100 Greatest Actors in the Goldderby poll that they are making) has 4 Oscar nominations in the time span of six years, but Jake Gyllenhaal, who’s among the top 5 greatest actors of this decade imho was snubbed for Nightcrawler, Nocturnal Animals, Stronger, and even Wildlife.

-Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando and Tom Hanks should all have at least 3 Oscars.

Al Pacino should have at least 4 Oscars.

    The Godfather
    Serpico
    The Godfather Part 2
    Scarface

(I don’t even count Dog Day Afternoon, because the majority of people think that Nicholson with his greatest performance ever in One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest absolutely deserved it, but I would still count it as a fifth win)

Does anyone remember why Uncut Gems was submitted in Drama at the Globes? The film was definitely as funny as it was dramatic. If Get Out and The Martian could do it, Uncut Gems could too.

I feel that was the beginning of the end for Sandler. I’d like to think a Globe win definitely would have propelled him to an Oscar nom.

I found both actors nothing special to be honest, I think Bradley knows how to play the game, he really want that Oscar, he’s criticizing the award shows now.

All of Cooper’s nominations come from Best Picture nominated films. The only two of Gyllenhaal’s films (post-Brokeback) to even gather nominations since are Nightcrawler and Nocturnal Animals.

And even in those he’s like 5th most memorable part of the latter and whilst the most acclaimed part of the former, Ahmed & Russo are just praised as him.

Adam Sandler was horribly robbed for “Uncut Gems.”

I also think Adam Sandler’s Snub (not only in Oscar but also in the golden globe, sag) one of the greatest of recent times, he delivered a performance that you get glazed and totally different from everything he has done for pure prejudice!

I think the idea of having three eternal Razzie favourites (Sandler, Murphy & Lopez) all nominated (with two of them
potentially winning) in the same year was much too for some academy members (going by the honest ballots) and none of them got in as result.

If only one of the three of them were contending they probably would’ve made it.

Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler is considered by many to be one of the greatest performances of the last decade, Ahmed and Russo while praised, are certainly not as praised as him in the film.
    What are you talking about??

Which only goes further to show Academy members’ continued biases and snobbery at legitimate contenders. No one was saying Sandler should be nodded for “Billy Madison.” Reward the work when it’s warranted and warranted alone.

I’d argue Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler is one of the greatest performances of the 21st century. His snub is the biggest travesty since Ray Liotta  got snubbed for Henry Hill.

Taron Egerton will forever be the snub that stings the most. His performance in that was so layered and beautiful whilst also being ridiculously entertaining. It’s not a performance that I believe could be replicated as opposed to DiCaprio who I truly believe turned in one of his worst performances, but each to their own.

Only here on Goldderby some people could think that Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is one of DiCaprio’s worst performances.
    Go figure.

I know Anthony Hopkins win is one in the history books, Robert DeNiro would have made an outstanding winner as well.
